Hockey late last night.
I think the Perds-Sharks game is still running.

The team explained the delay in announcing this was that they had to wait for his mom to give permission to generally manage on a school night.

Malkin not in trouble, nor should he be:
As speculated last night, Malkin's hit on Winnik deemed ok by NHL Player Safety. Hit shoulder first. Head wasn't principal point of contact

Gustav Nyquist with the OT winner for Sverige.
Brad Marchand doing Brad Marchand things and scored a SHG for Canada.
HAHAHAHA
So, playing around with the CBA and cap stuff, as I often do, and I found an interesting quirk about Chara’s contract structure.
As you all know, due to the Kovalchuk rule, his cap hit is equal to his real dollar salary of $4 million in 17-18, the final year of his deal and a full season after his 40th birthday. What took the deeper dive, is what that means about how is overall salary is constructed. His contract was $45.5 million over 7 years, with the cash value bouncing around a bit (9.5, 6,8,7,7,5,4 million each successive year). His AAV (cap hit) has been $6,916,667 for the 5 years to date and for next year, prior to the drop. This was calculated by dividing his salary prior to his age 40 season by the length prior to his age 40 season, thus is was calculated at $41.5 million divided by 6 years.
What I am getting at, is that there is no recapture penalty if Chara retires after next season, as his remaining salary is equal to his remaining cap credits.
So, obviously this is quite different from most back-diving contracts, as $4 million is still a lot of cash to have on the table for that final season. But, my point is that should Chara decide hang up the skates after next season for whatever reason, his cap hit would be wiped from the board entirely (as he was also under 35 when he signed the contract, so 35+ rules do not apply).
Not saying I’m wanting him to, just that this is a thing that could happen and it wouldn’t fuck up the cap.
Me thinks you need a hobby! (keeping in today’s pirate mode [we need an icon for pirate speak])
What this presumes is that this isn’t one of my hobbies.
Sverige 1 Latvija 1 in the 3rd. Something called a Kristaps Sotnieks tying it late for Latvija.
Canada 5 USA 1 final. Rad Brad with a shorty.
Latvia must be a weird place, what with everybody being plural and all.
It’s the Empire’s clone-breeding facility!

Called Blue Cross and Blue Shield of VT this morning to verify a cancellation.
“Ellen! We were just talking about you the other day! We love when you call! You’re always prepared and it’s always something easy!”
That made my day.
Who knew that YOU would be someone who is considered “always prepared”?!
Vermont is a crazy, crazy place.
