Morning Free Association, June 14

Good Morning!

The playoffs are over and it’s time to think about other things and turn our attention elsewhere:

  • Of course, we’re covering the draft, which is coming up on June 24th- 25th. In case you missed any of the profiles, you can find them here. Many more are to follow.
  • Down Goes Brown had an interesting grab bag discussing aspects of the SCF, rules about the expansion draft, and the NHL popularity and ratings problems.
  • The Blues hired recently ousted Minnesota Wild Head Coach Mike Yeo as an assistant coach this season and successor to Ken Hitchcock in 2017. It’s a curious situation.
  • The odds of the Bruins winning the Stanley Cup next season are 25:1 according, while the Penguins are a favoured 8:1.
  • The Foxborough Summer Pro League finally has released it’s rosters and schedules. No Bergy or Krug this year, although Matt Grzelcyk, Rob O’Gara, the Hayes brothers, Keith Yandle, Jack Eichel, and newly minted Stanley Cup Champion Brian Dumoulin are on the rosters. If you’re in the area on Wednesday night, or any Wednesday night through August, it’s worth checking out.

What’s on tap?

I work in a large building with another non profit. A woman I occasionally pass in the hallway sent me a friend request on Facebook. She does not work for the same company as I do and I have never introduced myself to her. I’m going to let this request slide.

That’s very odd.

Good morning, peeps!

BULLET POINTS:

  • Looked at another apartment in Brighton last night. Liked it, but they want July 1st. I don’t think I can swing it.
  • Have to do a little disciplinary stuff today which I am super nervous about. Why am I such a fucking wuss? Cauliflower says he’s got my back. I don’t know what my problem is. WHY AM I NON-CONFRONTATIONAL?
  • comment image

  • Coffee.
  • Wrote another draft profile tonight. I’m actually going to be sad when they’re over.
  • Cauliflower was inquiring about my boss’ childless vacation yesterday, then asked him if they got started on child #3. “NO. I’m DONE.” “Done? Oh, well in that case, I know a guy. Only takes 20 minutes.” Yeah, my VP tried to neuter my boss last night. This place is weird. No boundaries.
  • Been skating quite a bit. Improvement, then no improvement, then improvement. Outside edges are a bitch. Why is this so hard when it’s a thing I used to be super awesome at?
  • My handsome boyfriend office crush flagged me down yesterday just to talk about my weekend. He’s a good boy. Maybe it’s mutual. As we’ve established, there are no boundaries here. Also, he invited me on a work field trip to NY. I don’t think it’s necessary that I go, but I’m going to make it necessary.

  • With that, I have a catching up beverage tonight with a dude I went on a date or two with. We’ll see.
  • There was something else but I can’t remember it.

Nobody likes doing the disciplinary thing, I hope. It took me a long time to be able to do it.

Outside edges! Tough, but the key to everything.

Glide around the faceoff circles on your outside edges

You can also skate in a straight line using only outside edges. it’s weird, but fun

On one leg, skate forward to face off circle, get on O/S and glide around circle

I hear you on the non-confrontational thing. I’d be a horrid manager.

One thing I’ve learned: guys are surprisingly open about vasectomies. I’ve heard more conversations about them than I’d rather ever know.

What’s funny is, the one I have to talk to is so blunt that I don’t really know why I’m worried. She can take it. Of course, she’s going to give it, as well.

I personally feel that though most major corporations dont want to hear blunt answers calling out failings…i feel like any good manager needs to know what the threshold is and yet still be able to question the credibility of the information coming to them. My dad told me something the other week that in my opinion is some of the best advice he had ever given about the coroporate world.

“When I was a director I had meeting with the CEO all the time and he did not always agree with me but he respected me. He respected me because the first time I sat in his office I opened with: The objective of this meeting is to find out from you what I need to do to get this approved. If it has weaknesses what needs to be done to make this happen. I believe in this, and i wouldnt be in your office if I did not believe to my fullest degree that this would help the company, so what i need from you is to find out what it will take for you to approve this.”

This CEO was netorious for ripping apart people and dismantling any thing you brought to him…if you come in his office and talk for 5 min he would get bored and send you out of the office. What my dad did not only showed commitment and strenth but told the CEO that he wasnt there to sell his plan…but make it happen. I feel like no matter what level you are, if you have this type of mentality you will get recognised and respected by your superior, and they may not always agree with you…but they will at least listen and take into account what you believe in your professional background is the correct course of action.

What’s funny about the whole thing is that out of the two guys I was talking to, I expected our GM/VP (cauliflower) to be the one to baby me, and for my direct boss to toss me in the pool and tell me to swim. It was the other way around!

    What’s old is new again…

Randy Carlyle is returning to coach the Anaheim Ducks, the team he won a Stanley Cup with in 2007, according to two reports Monday evening.

One thing i was curious about, now that Savy is no longer a Bruin, do the Bruins still honor his donated Suite to the Childrens Museum?

SO wait..are player suites given by the organization to the roster players…or were they bought and owned by players that want to buy them?

I know in baseball players will have in their contract a certain number of tickets to games. Wonder if it’s the same in hockey regarding suites and tickets.

Right. So if its org. tickets…id be curious if the Org. would continue the Childs Hospital Cherity donation Savvy made.

One would think that if not directly, perhaps via the Bruins Foundation? (I’m not really certain how they are organizationally related to the team).

Good Morning All! So glad to be home. Miami just ain’t my kinda town. Anyway, lots to do!!! Ordering material for a zinc counter top and getting ready to quote a really cool fireplace screen. Regular chores on tap, as well. It’s going to be a busy week, capped off by Mom’s 96th birthday celebration next weekend!!! My whole family (them that’s left) will be there. I’m scared…. for Newport.
Coffee on tap and business. Check yas later.

    Good Morning!

I got the call for references last night. Methinks I’m getting an offer. Depending on compensation, the only remaining question is…do I take it?

    Tough choices ahead.
