Morning Free Association, June 16

So, yesterday was the fifth anniversary of the 2010-11 Boston Bruins winning the Stanley Cup.

We spent the evening here at Monster Island watching Game 7, remembering why we hate Alex Burrows, Ryan Kesler, Jannik Hansen, and laughing at how Doc believed that Andrew Ference had a brother Brad (from another mother apparently because of the two weeks separating their births) and how much he would have appreciated that moment. While we feel bad that Brad Ference (no relation), he himself a defenceman who played 250 games in the NHL for the Panthers, Coyotes, and Flames, could not experience that particular joy of raising the cup, it’s funny that the all-knowing Pierre did not correct him.

https://vine.co/v/OwzQUVhaaFA

“Hi there, I’m Pierre and I’m here to creep you out.”

Anyway, uh, I guess there was pre-draft trade involving the Blackhawks and Hurricanes.

Phil Kessel: The Legend Continues participated in some Stanley Cup Parade in Pittsburgh.

So, right, another day begins!

A day after making a good trade, the Hurricanes follow it up by signing Cam Ward to a 2-year, $3.3mil/yr deal:

There are 59 other goalies in the NHL who are better than Cam Ward.

Ward is okay and a bargain at 3.3

I also have no problem with Ward. Although the Penguins have cap issues and 2 starting goaltenders. Fleury is costing them around $5.75M to warm a bench.

Well, NESN is reporting a rumor that Calgary may be interested in MAF.

They should.

The Whalercanes problems are a little deeper than Ward. He might do okay behind a good team.

So whats everyone’s general feelings twards the draft? Excitement….nervousness…dread…hope?

As a member of Bearly on Topic, I feel bad for what I am about to say.

I feel indifferent. I attended the 2004 Draft which was fun, but unless I am there or there are lots of trades, it’s a boring event.

BTW, I saw some AWESOME guys get drafted.

Still, I’d just as soon read it in the paper (if i read the paper, who am I kidding. All my news comes from B2B). There will still be plenty of time to imagine how these picks will fit into the Bs future. There’s still time to figure out how last year’s picks fit into the Bs future!!

We could see Columbus trading down from the #3 spot:

McKenzie outlines why Blue Jackets may trade top draft pick

We could finally see Edmonton trade the #4 pick and perhaps roster players to acquire defense.

The Bruins might trade one of their 1st round picks for defense.

We could see the Rangers, Kings, Blackhawks, Sharks, and Penguins trade into the 1st round, as they all have no 1st round picks.

I would give both 1st rounders for some D!

Most likely. But, I’m still processing the pros/cons and struggling to believe I actually got an offer.

Pros: Engineer title, hefty pay raise (several k more than expected), not here, new learning experiences
Cons: Scary new world, sounds like it would be busy with some long hours for the next year until they stabilize a bit, eh health insurance, eh vacation policy

True. I haven’t yet decided how I plan to walk out on my last day yet. Do I dance a little jig on my manager’s desk or just go for the kick the door open and flip the bird on the way out?

(I’m obviously kidding)

Morning, pals!

BULLET POINTS:

  • Looked at another apartment in Brighton last night. Ehhh.
  • Beautiful weather out there today!
  • Looking at another place in Newton tonight. Pray for me.
  • I wanted to hang out and celebrate the anniversary of fun hockey happenings, but yesterday was crazytown at work and I ended up walking laps through the building and yelling about Rhode Island to anyone involved in the current fiasco. It was diplomatic yelling, though – we all laughed a lot, despite having a yellfest in the director of purchasing’s office (in front of my handsome boyfriend), followed by a screaming match in the hallway.
  • The employee I spoke to the other day, well, I was much too nice to her, and apparently giving someone two days to write a list of what they do and how long it takes is just not enough time. I emailed her last night asking for her to get it to me today and she said something like, “When I can, if you wanted it to be a rush, then you should have said so…” – well, pick your battles, little girl, and fuck you. I held back the other day and refrained from dropping a big bomb she’s really not going to like (which I have nothing to do with, but am tasked with, unfortunately). She’s going to fucking LOVE me after today.
  • If Cauliflower tells me he loves me one more time this week, we’re getting married. I’m putting my foot down.
  • Joe – thanks – I’m gonna check out some Laura Stamm videos as well. I think at this point, I’m just being a wimp because I’m old and also because I’m too proud to fall for some reason… which is hilarious because I am a trainwreck in general, hahahaha
  • A good pal of mine was just told she and her husband need to move. She offered to get a 3 bedroom/2 bathroom and have me move in for a year because they have sticker shock (they’ve lived in their place for a while). I’m evaluating. I don’t know.
  • My cousin’s wife had brain surgery to remove a benign tumor last week and everything went horribly wrong, resulting in her being taken off life support yesterday. It’s over now, but oh man. Everything has been crazy lately. I really liked her, she was very blunt, and very nonchalant about it. I can’t explain it.
  • I have to work in the other office tomorrow, I may once again be MIA. You may not even notice since everything has been crazy for me lately!
  • Check out the draft profiles – more to come today!
  • Wow, there are a lot more bullets there than I thought I had in me. Sorry, guys.

-Condolences to you and and you’re cousin and the whole family. Absolutely awful.
-Man, you’ve been having a crazy week. Hopefully this weekend you can relax and enjoy an adult beverage or five
-Uh, it takes you this long to write a list about how long it takes you do things?
    -Yay, more draft profiles!
