Morning Free Association, August 25

The Arizona Coyotes have become the first team in the NHL to hire a woman as a full-time coach.

Dawn Braid had worked part-time for the Coyotes in her role as skating coach last season and previously had been a consultant for the Leafs, Sabres, and Flames among others. She comes is high endorsed by John Tavares, who has worked with her for years on his skating.

Now it’s your move all 29 other NHL franchises.

I don’t know why, but I haven’t been sleeping well the past few weeks. My dreams have been extremely bizarre too.

Read NHL news at bedtime. It should work – at least during August.

We have a trade to announce!

ARIZ/FLA working on a deal that will send David Bolland and Lawson Crouse to the Coyotes for a second and third pick…

I’m dealing with an ant-pocalypse at home. They’ve decided that they like marching in endless circles around the bedroom walls.
I put poison bait around the outside of the house, in the bedroom, and in the attic above the bedroom. I have no idea how hot the attic was when I swapped out the bait traps, but it was at least 120F, as that is how high my thermometer was able to go. I think it was well above that.

There were suspiciously no ants in the room this morning. While I want to believe that was because they were all in the attic, gorging themselves on poison, I’m guessing it’s just because it was cool in the room, and that I’ll need to spray insecticide in there when I next get home.

Some interesting ant facts:
1. The weight of all the ants in the world is greater than the weight of the humans in the world
2. They are all females. They can control the gender of the young and only make males when they need them. The males then only live a day or so.
3. A queen can produce young for 20 years from a single insemination.
4. They can give each other directions to a food source (ie. they don’t have to physically show each other where the food is)

Fascinating creatures, though I wouldn’t want them marching round my walls smile

Hello!

My copy of “Orr: My Story” arrived yesterday from Amazon, so I’m looking forward to get stuck into that.

I’m pretty sure I was undercharged too. It cost me £2.65 for a brand new hardcover book with a $30 cover price, so I’m thinking it should have been £26.50. Either way, it’s a win in my book!

Hope everyone is well

GH has been regaling me with quotes from it. We’ve had it around all year, but I never spent the time to dig into it.

These are the dog days of hockey, hockey’s horse latitudes, if you will. I’d like some real hockey, but I want more summer! Can’t I have both?

SKA St Petersburg are playing in an hour – they’ve got Datsyuk, Kovalchuk (and middlefinger Slava Voynov poop ) and it’s 27 degrees C here. Hockey and summer!

Morning All! Nice double last night, two more games tonight.
Doubleheaders mean coming home late and not getting enough sleep.
Jo has been fed and sent to work… I may go back to bed.
I’m only going to get one day on the river this weekend, hockey Sunday morning…. it begins!
Jo and I had kayak rolling practice in the pool last night before we went to the rink…. her roll is back!!!
Mo coffee! (after my nap).

The Rangers and a few other teams used to have Laura Stamm for skating coach…… not full time, I guess.

Morning
It took way to long for me to realize that there wasn’t an actual second mic in that gif. I should go back to bed, despite feeling like I actually slept last night. Good on the Coyotes though. Step up other teams.

First of maybe three fantasy football drafts tonight. Should be a good time. Other than that I’ve really got nothing today

Morning!

I’ve been MIA all week. Sorry. Just been that busy.

That said, I really have not to much to report. Had to have an oil leak fixed on our brand new furnace. We were obviously not charged for that.

I’m looking forward to hockey now so that I can more easily join you all during games at least.

There must be some hex going on because I had a tree fall on my stairs the other day and this morning my coworker’s fridge died so he’s spending most of the day buying a new one. On the plus side, office to myself for a while!
