“I’m 100 percent committed to the Stars.”, says Jamie Benn.
Dallas Stars forward Jamie Benn has withdrawn from Canada’s World Cup of Hockey team. He will be replaced on Team Canada by Logan Couture (a.k.a Croatian Tom Cruise).
Benn stated that he was focused on completely recovering in time for the start of the Stars’ upcoming season. He had undergone abdominal surgery on June 14th to repair some core muscle damage suffered this summer, and was speculated to be able to attend the World Cup tournament, which begins on September 17th.
Dallas has been busy of late. They recently signed free agent Jiri Hudler to a one-year deal. Hudler scored a career high 31 goals for Calgary in 2014/15, but regressed to half that production last year.
Former Bruin and current WCH Team Canada member, Tyler Seguin believes they have entered their Stanley Cup window, which is ironic, since Seguin missed most of last season’s playoff run.
As for the World Cup, Benn isn’t the only player to drop out. Defenseman Duncan Keith, who is recovering from a knee injury, has dropped out and will be replaced by Jay Bouwmeester. When asked about it, P.K. Subban was possibly quoted as saying “Wow, barbecue really is much better here than in Quebec”
