Morning Free Association, September 19

The World Cup of Hockey is in full swing with games on Saturday and Sunday beginning the action.

Saturday saw Team Europe blank Team USA 3-0 and Canada embarrass Czech Republic 6-0. On Sunday, Sweden defeated Russia 2-1 and Team North America trounced Finland 4-1. ESPN 2 wasted no time after the game for silly things like discussions of the game, opting to head straight into Poker Night in America.

As I said on our most recent Bearly on Topic podcast, I only wish that the goal song or even anthem played for TNA was this golden hit by Debbie Gibson:

The slate of games for Monday are the following:

Monday, Sept. 19

Team Europe vs. Team Czech Republic, 3 p.m., ESPN, SN, TVA Sports

Team Russia vs. Team North America, 8 p.m., ESPN2, SN, TVA Sports

We’re going to have a game thread for the evening game, so get ready for our version of Captain’s Practice for the commenters.

Now that we have the business of today all taken care of, I want to wish my favourite left winger a Happy Birthday. No, it’s not Brad Marchand (he’s my second favouritest, and his day is in May), it’s Intentionally Widenberg. Unlike me, he doesn’t like to make a big deal of it so make sure you wish him well on this day.
