There will be no Morning Food Association today due to technical difficulties on my part (aka I forgot after this stupid end of quarter week)
Sorry everyone, I hope you all have a good day
“Well obviously it’s special for him and his family and the opportunity he had here,” Canada coach Mike Babcock said. “Let’s not kid ourselves, he’s still a pest. He’s going to be a pest when we play in our home opener, he’ll be a pest. But he’s a pest with elite speed, elite skill and a good penalty killer.”
But he doesn’t belong on Team Canada donchaknow?
Matt Irwin on waivers. Remember when hockey twitter was saying he should get another look? Ahahahahaha
St Louis also is waiving old friend Jordan Caron today
Last night when I came home from class, I observed a man walking right in front of my door and towards my neighbors door. He claimed he was looking for a place to pee. This is the second time I’ve seen him snooping around. Next time I call the police.
Since moving to my new apartment, I’ve had someone try to break into my car (I saw the guy and he ran off), two occasions of a guy peeing in the yard, and been blocks away from a murder. During the day, it’s a fantastic neighborhood. At night it’s every man for himself.
You’re living in The Purge part of Winston-Salem, huh?
Those movies are so fucked.
EDIT: I’m blocks away from a bagel shop. Each morning they have a rabbi bless the bagels too.
I’ve never seen that movie, but I kind of want to.
The first movie is solid though unspectacular. Doesn’t take full advantage of the intriguing concept. Haven’t seen the rest
The latter ones (which I also have not seen) grab the concept by the balls and run with it to its full potential, so I’ve heard
The second is more what I thought the first one was going to be like. Obviously neither are cinematic tour de forces. Watched them because they were on and I needed something mindless.
The Rick and Morty parody, however, is awesome.
The content is irrelevant because Rick and Morty is amazing and insane
That show looks atrocious and is the kind of thing that makes me worry for the future/next generation…
out of everything…thats the thing that has you worried about the next generation?
One of many, many, many things.
Read the plots and they didn’t interest me much. There were also a ton of plot holes in the first… or maybe not plot holes so much as illogical actions
Something else that just occurred to me- with Cassidy on the coaching staff, I wager we see bigger roles for any guys coming out of Providence than we might have otherwise. So everyone itching for some Griffith action may get something of what they want
Good point. I hadn’t even thought of that.
I got an itch from Griffith that only Cassidy can medicate.
You might want to get some antibiotics for that, actually.
I had a feeling a Griffith – Acciari – Randell 4th line is very likely.
Nash is pretty much a lock for 4RW. and then theres Moore. I still expect Moore-Acciari-Nash
I don’t see how you sign Nash (or Moore) and not put them on the roster.
I don’t know much about Nash, but I hate what I’ve seen from him offensively. Is his defensive prowess interesting at all (sufficient to be an asset on the 4th line)?
I saw Nash a lot in Carolina. I am thrilled we have him.
And his contract is really really great. Buryable if he proves not good too.
I keep forgetting Moore exists.
I’m surprised his offensive game is so bad looking… his stats seem decent for a 3/4 liner. Even his Corsi is solid
He wears 20 and seems to live up to the “high-glass” technique of the former occupant of that number. At least from what we’ve seen so far.
Oh, poor Pie… who only looked like a pelican that one time, and got that stupid nickname from Corny…
Well, it is from Corny…
Also, I never called him that. My introduction to him was speed and wide shots and high glass. I think in person, he was much more handsome.
He wore a bulky mouthpiece which flared his lips outward.
I… really liked that nickname actually
Better than calling Pasta The Legend. Which is just fucking awful
It’s especially awful since it was bestowed upon him his rookie year. Besides, Larry Bird is the Legend.
I thought that was Will Smith.
I don”t get the legend nickname. We need to come up with something better.
Flying Spaghetti Monster and Zhivago keep me pretty happy
I thought it was lame, since there was that ONE picture.
his HERO chart from last year is almost identical to Kelly’s from 2011. So he’d be a great 4th liner I reckon
We’re starting the season without Vatrono and Krejci. There will be lots of shuffling.
Krejci has been practicing at camp (with “modified contact”) and is “eyeing” being ready to play for the start of the season
Yeah i wouldn’t be surprised to see Heinen in the 3rd line till Vatrano is back….unless Mueller decides to steal a spot.
Heinen’s looked better than Wyatt Earp there so far, so I’d say Mueller doesn’t get signed
Bruins announced the roster for tonight’s preseason game last night: https://www.nhl.com/bruins/news/bruins-roster-preseason-game-vs-detroit-on-930/c-282254690
What I find interesting, is that Luedeke seemed convinced Schaller was going to likely be 4LW, but thats the third exhibition game tonight and he’s yet to draw into a roster, so I think its safe to say hes Providence bound. Too bad for a good NH boy. At least he knows himself some Providence from college.
CLAUDE HATES NEW HAMPSHIRE
Claude….has yet to attend camp.
This is all Sacco Oflodnap and Cassidy’s fault
What’s really funny is that I forgot until last night that Claude was coaching in the WCH. I just thought Babcock was doing it all on his own.
DON’T LET YOUR FACTS GET IN THE WAY OF MY NARRATIVE
Oh, c’mon, BOB! It’s just New Hampshire – it’s not like it’s Rhode Island! (waits for the explosion…)
I’ll drink my tax free booze all day long, and if you come to visit, you can pick some up on the highway too
State tax free booze. The feds still have to get theirs…
And I’m well aware. I live close enough to that silly state to be able to run up to Nashua for tax free purchases
NH liquor stores are cheaper than most duty free shops I’ve been in….
Last time I was in a duty free I really was not impressed by alcohol prices. Thought some of the stuff I could get cheaper at standard liquor store.
I do like how NH store has online price list and inventory.
The NH stores get really nice stuff, too!
My only issue with them is that I’m primarily a beer drinker. Annoys me I can’t get booze and beer at same place and NH supermarkets never have great selection
My issue with them is that control states are supposedly to discourage liquor, but they’ve got ads fucking everywhere.
Also IMO they’re inconvenient… BUT I live in MA, so I don’t really care.
I can see how they’re inconvenient. However I’ve always lived in a town that had a liquor store so it’s never been an issue. I had no idea they were supposed to discourage liquor considering all of the ads i’ve seen for them.
That was the intent when the repeal happened.
They practically invite people from MA to come up and buy.
NH supermarkets never have great selection
I cannot recch this enough. Although the case n kegs have a bunch of good stuff
The grocery store in my town also has a state liquor store. I love one stop shopping.
Coming from Canadian liquor stores, my eyes turn into saucers when I see the stellar selection at Market Basket, but then the Canadian microbrew scene is still in its infancy
If you’re a beer guy, locate one of these places:
Another excellent place is the ‘Wine and Spirits’ mini chain. I know of two in Burlington and Westford and they’re amazing. Good beer, wine and liquor selection
The women who own it are lovely as well. My sister and brother-in-law practically live there.
Funny thing is they opened one in CT in west hartford and the selection was horrid…they only lasted 6 months if that.
Eesh… it does seem that they may have overexpanded based on their website locations.
Only been a couple times to the one in Belmont but was really impressed with selection and ability to take singles.
Belmont and Braintree are good. Winchester was too, but I can’t remember if that one is still around.
No, I’m not 12 why do you ask?
Live Free and Drink yourself to death for very little money motherfuckers!
go ahead, pick the only other state besides NH I give a fuck about. (takes shelter as GH jumps from the turnbuckle elbow first as Goth Music unexpectedly comes over the PA)
1) You should care about RI because that was where you were born. Have some pride man!
2) Hell hath no fury like a GH scorned. This website resulted from that.
3) It would have to be industrial music because true goth music only makes people want to look at the floor and smoke things that smell like dirt. And write bad poetry, of course. Industrial makes me feel like cracking heads.
I see now I worded that awkwardly. That was meant to be me being snarkily menacing until your music (which I got wrong) played
Eh, it’s fine. It’s like interchangeable to some extent, kind of an umbrella term. I get it.
Those poor little states, feeding of the tit of Massachusetts and metro Boston…
If I hadn’t moved here for my relationship, I would be happily back in Rhode Island not giving a fuck about Massachusetts.
What is this Road Island of which you speak? I can’t find it on any map of the US…
It’s south of Boston, but you have to look REAL close.
Eat a dick, BOB (in the friendliest tone possible)
Just a reminder:
if you want to play fantasy hockey, you should DM me on twitter or send me an email at phonymahoney at comcast dot net.
There will be no Morning Food Association today
EVERYONE SHOULD GO TO THE BIG E IF THEY HAVN’T GONE YET
deep fried mac and cheese bites covered in cheese and bacon.
OH MY GOD THE DIARRHEA IT WILL CAUSE IS SO WORTH IT
pictures of things!
spoken like a true son of the south
Yeah, after I posted that I thought to myself, “That’s the most Southern thing I’ve ever thought.”
Says the man with a well publicized enthusiasm for Bojangles
all that cajun biscuit filet needs to be the most southern food ever is to be drowned in sausage gravy
While in the suburbs of Chicago, I went to a family diner. They had a Southern omelet–an omelet covered in gravy. We put gravy on a lot of things, but not our omelets.
so.. basically they had a northerner’s idea of what southerners eat
In the South we also have big cities and fine, upscale dining. We also have huge R1 universities.
Okay, now you’ve gone too far past the realm of plausibility…
If that’s your selling point, then no.
they have 3 beer tents and lots of floofy animals?
now these are compelling reasons
Well, I do like beer and animals.
How does one deep fry Kool-Aid.
dont do it…its bad..and the fried butter balls….pretty much anything from that booth is a pure gimmick.
Better off going with the fried dough or the fried dough covered in bacon and maple sauce from the other vender….though even that was too much bacon for me and i never thought id say that in my life.
Oh, I don’t think I would ever try it. I was just wondering how one would do that?
I am torn. My original plans have changed, but it will be raining tomorrow…
My original plans have changed,
Welcome to join us for the BU game, I don’t know what the seating situation is like yet, though.
No, no need to feel bad. I gave you an out and that was fine.
I thought you had Smithchuk?
I do! I just meant if you get a ticket, you are welcome to join us (we are doing shake shack afterward). I don’t know how full/empty our section is, as this is the first home game.
Thanks for the offer. We’ll see. If I go out during the day, I might be a little too tuckered out for the evening, especially if the day involves a lot of driving.
Wait… does BU actually do assigned seating?
Yeah. It’s a real arena, with seats. BC does as well.
So you’re telling me the oldest operational indoor arena in the WORLD is not in fact an arena?
And Lowell. Probably not at Matthews, though.
Technically Matthews does, but only maybe 50% of people follow it.
That many? I think I only ever paid attention to seat number my first game as a freshman. After that I went where I wanted.
Best was one year when parents of an opposing player were trying to take their assigned seats. In the NU student section. None too smart…
McAvoy and JFK!!!!!
(also Keller and Bellows and Fabbro and holy fuck that might be the most fun hockey team in the world to watch this year)
Thank the lord they’re streaming, huh? You can see where the excitement about McAvoy and JFK comes from.
pretty sure its a batter infused with coolaid powder…its…bleh.
That it is. I keep wanting to go to the OC fair to see what they’ll shove into a deep fryer this year, but I still haven’t made it over there.
That’s not so much deep fried Kool-Aid so much as deep frying with Kool-Aid.
yup…as i said…gimmic booth. they have “deep fried jelly beans” which is really just batter with jelly beans in it…and you get like two jelly beans per ball of batter. I stopped going to that booth a long time ago.
Are you going again? In general, not to that booth…
yeah, Sat. ill be going. Not sure time yet.
I will think about it and let you know via Twitter.
okie dokie. ill send you my # on there also. I tend to ignore most of twitter notifications.
What? Now it's like you're daring me to include you in Tweets to send you more notifications.
Now it's like you're daring me to include you in Tweets to send you more notifications
I sent you mine, as well.
But the Big E is WAY OVER THERE!
yeah but…i mean…look at all that food.
Blueberry Pierogi Sundae?!?!!
deep fried martini?!
THERE BE DRAGONS
“That was funny, you trying to crosscheck me in front of the net… see you in Boston, Marchy”
“uhhh… yeah. See you in Boston, Zee.”
Interesting article on Pension Plan Puppets about relative standings movement in the Atlantic division:
What the fuck was that? That had layers of complex and diverse wrongness
I thought it was just me!
Their other changes are largely being forced upon them. They have to put David Pastrnak in the lineup, they have no other choices.
Bruins fans be like
What a weird thing to say.
They did preface everything with hate them. Let’s just get that out there, so we can try to look at the team through something other than a red haze of loathing.
You know they take shots hoping there are Bs fans reading. They’re a little frustrated up there, The country rules at hockey, but Toronto can’t get it done.
seriously…i know lots of Toronto fans and non of them hate the Bruins. If anything Rangers fans cant stand B fandom because there are so many new “fans” aka people wearing bruins apparel in CT that never existed before. Rangers fans never had to look at so much black and gold before.
Yea, well, isn’t this the camp that is still considering Pasta a prospect? I’d just swat at them and tell them “Shoo!”
I know have an image of you whacking hockey twitter with fly swatter.
Now. not know.
Oh, well you know it to be true. You can join me, if you’d like.
They also see to think the bruins are focused purely on their fourth line which is absurd… Last year their issue was finding a consistent 3rd line and hell a consistent line everywhere. Between moving Beleskey, Connolly, and Hayes anywhere from 1st to 3rd was a mess. The addition of Stepniak solidified things a bit more and getting Acciari to fill that 4th line C helped a ton too. The depth of “scoring forwards” in the talent pool is not a hidden secret, but that said the team is no where close to having Renaldo on the 4th line.
This year what Claude needs to focus on is building line chemistry between the newer guys and sticking with it. These guys last year never could get a feel for eachouther and i think even DK showed signs of frustration with not having consistent linemates.
Yeah. I feel like he took a Hockey Twitter™ survey and wrote it from there.
It’s not all grindey anymore.
And online surveys should rarely be taken seriously.
Unless they are B2B surveys!
I only do polls about what you really want to hear/ read.
But how am I going to find out what the color of my eyes says about the my favourite hockey team?
But how am I going to find out what the color of my eyes says about the my favourite hockey team
Ooh! I think that means I get old timey Bruins!
You guys are reading too much into my pretend thing. I said nothing of jerseys because these quizzes are usually just this dumb, not that dumb.
I’m all for discussing inane things.
I know! I was just being silly!
Nordiques for me.
Yes they do count.
oh Nords sweaters. such beauty. much eye matching. so Quebec. Wow
Nords sweaters = best ever, perhaps.
My eyes aren’t green and blue. That would be cool, but untruthful.
it would be untruthful if i said i had any idea of what you looked like….so … :/
a strong challenger appears
I can dig that argument
Five thing you don’t know about your favorite hockey team. Number 3 will shock you!
You won’t believe who they drafted next!
What Jaromir Jagr looks like today is insane!
(also… he looks a lot less rough than we would expect, no?)
Yes, but The Jagr is obviously a Time Lord
You forgot that they like Hockey Twitter™ and all SB Nation sites have to have OMG NARRATIVE YOU GUYS!!!!! I think it’s clearly stipulated in their contracts. So their narrative is being a fan site of a team that hasn’t been relevant in years trying to remember the last bad thing they said about the Bruins.
I think it’s hilarious that Hockey Twitter™ and so many SBN sites are always complaining about narratives, yet they’re the ones perpetuating them.
What Claude needs to focus on is finding 6 NHL caliber D…
Whether Claude can turn what we have into them or Sweenius can find some, yes, that’s the number one need.
no…finding them is Sweeney’s job.
Man, it’s fun to mess with Crosby acolytes by suggesting Marchand deserved the MVP over him (kinda like Kessel!)
He scored the most goals in the tournament, and none bigger than last night!
Yup. Game tying goal against Russia. Goal to give them lead against Russia. Scored in first game of final. Scored shortie in last minute to win tournament.
Can you imagine the press had Crosby done those things instead?
