Morning Free Association, October 4

Tonight is preseason game #5. It’s a special one, because we’re getting our first look at the new and improved Montreal Canadiens. Obviously neither team is going to ice the lineup we’ll be seeing during the regular season, but it’ll still be a good time.

Also, it’s always a good idea to perfect your Hab hating before the season officially begins. It’s an important skill all Bruins fans should have in their repertoire.

Finally, and most importantly…

At times like this, it’s very important to remember why we feel the way we do. Please take a moment to revisit this classic Bruins vs. Habs incident. Ah, memories…

I have about two weeks of vacation accrued plus another seven days I already requested to have off. Nice. This is a good discovery.

DrHandgrenaid

Nice. I’ve got my baseline 3 weeks plus one week accumulated and another 16 hours rolled over (both from last fiscal year) because I apparently couldn’t be bothered to take actual time off ever since I started here

You should use some of that vacation to come to Boston and go to the game on Dec. 20th.

I really only have one regret from the past five years. I wish I had taken more time off from work. I wish I could have visited family in Boston. I’m looking at the next two and half years and I don’t see how I’m making it to Boston

Boston is not that far away from wherever you’ll be in Michigan. If you don’t make it from there it’s your own fault.

It’s a 12 hour drive!

That’s not that much! And I say that as a Rhode Islander.

I tell you what, I’m coming this summer! I forgot I will have a summer vacation since I am a college kid.

Anything over 8 hours is long.

Anything over 45 minutes requires that a bag be packed!

I used to have problems with driving long distances but then I learned how to roadtrip. Don’t worry about the time it takes, make an experience out of it.

The Once and Future Bagel Bruin

The direct route requires driving through Canada. This is a good idea. I might have to contact my old road tripping buddies. One lives in NC, the other is Madison, WI. With planning, anything is possible.

I see its decided then. Excellent. Johnny Rocket and Tavares and Seidenberg eating nachos and Bruins and my 32nd. Groovy.

Good morning everyone

  • used one of my last two sick days today with a migraine
  • the worst part about the election cycle is the smear ads from non candidate sponored groups. That should not be legal, it’s just hate
  • fuck the habs
  • my best habs memory was in the 2011 playoff series i bought boston lager to drink & they went 0-2, so i bought molson canadian & we all know how that turned out

I always hate election season, because New Hampshire candidates get smeared non-stop on Boston-based channels. I know very little about Maggie Hassan and Kelly Ayotte except that they have been loathed for years by “New Hampshire voters” (those who happen to be located in the Washington beltway).
If that stuff could be kept quarantined to WBIN & WMUR, I’d be OK because that’s the risk one takes by watching stuff from the Manchester market.

    carvinbass18

WMUR is 100% garbage. I told muse this earlier on twitter that Ayotte bothers me on personal level after touring our production facility she had her nose turned up to any member of the production team. So incredibly insulting

There’s a wine warehouse about a mile away advertising 24 bottles of Samuel Adams for £24 – is it a sign?

Was tempting, but it’s not imported – produced here under licence. That doesn’t count in my book – it’s all about the water!!

    Satan81
    Admin

    Yeah, that totally doesn’t count.

Yes? Molson Canadian was a proud sponsor of Bruins hockey then too & it never felt right

I totally forgot about that last gif but it cracked my shit up.

Every day is a beautiful day to hate the Habs!

Hey phony, do you know what games you’re going to this season? Satan81 and I should go to one of them. And the rest of you should get tickets to that game as well.

I’m debating moving my vacation over the holidays to be early enough for me to make in to the Isles on Dec 20th (already can be assured that GH and IW will be at THAT game hahaha) Its midweek that might be rough for some folks, I but its either that or Buffalol on the Dec 31st and meh.

Eichel! You must go! Also, Jo and I will be there, it’s a 1pm game so all kinds of nonsense could ensue postgame!

    Satan 81's Sister

And you must also go to the Islanders game!

aiiiieeee (no, not Manatee hockey, but I’m failing to find other appropriate onomatopoeia for my mood).

In addition to finding myself being plagiarized yesterday, I now find out today that I need to cobble together a talk for a ocnference in New Brunswick in November… and need to come up with a title in the next couple hours. So. aiiiiieeeeee.

Whoever plagiarized you needs to be punched in the face.
The title should be” “We’re Talking Rocks, Bitches!”

Ooh that’s a good one, Sister. I agree.

Its pretty funny how it happened. I got an email from an editor of some obscure journal (Turkish Journal of Geosciences) asking me to be a peer reviewer on this paper from a couple of Iranian authors on some rocks like my thesis rocks in southern Iran. I was skimming the figures before deciding whether or not to accept the responsibility, and notice a few photos that looked very familiar. Checked a paper of mine form 2013 (in a much higher profile international journal, not anything obscure) and there they were. I emailed the editor back in rage, and got the reply this morning that they will reject the manuscript, but if I could please accept reviewership and write something to that effect so that it is documented

Imitation is the greatest form of flattery. I wonder if Michigan State has any geology post docs.

    Good Morning All!
There are so many highlights from the Bs – Habs! Just the recent stuff would fill a book. Looch and Komisarek comes to mind. What will we see tonight?
Jo and I are still excited about that house. Financing approved. We’re moving forward toward the past (life is a little behind in Monroe).
Single game tonight, double tomorrow night and Thursday. Paddling the Deerfield River on Friday with a buddy. Lots of hockey this weekend. The seasons be changing.
By next week this time, Matthew might bring us enough rain for a local river to come up.
    Coffee and lots of it!!!

Tonight’s game is in Quebec City, right?

    The London Bear

    Yup, that’s right.

It’s being shown on RDS, which hopefully means NHL.tv will have it. I had a look at the RDS website and it’s all in French, so the commentary could be interesting…

    IntentionallyWidenberg

    It’s a Bruins home game.
At the Centre Videotron, in Quebec
    Broadcast only on Canadian TV
    In French.

    AAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!

I haven’t ponied up the cash for GameCenter this year, (since no one in the house is following any remote teams), so I may not even have a chance to see it.
    BOOOOOO.
