Morning Free Association, October 26

That game last night was a rough one, with the Bruins falling 5-0 to the Wild.

Malcolm Subban started, Zane McIntyre finished, neither stopped all the pucks.

Zdeno Chara believes that when you fail to pay attention to your game, this is what happens.

In other words, do your job.

Anyway, let’s bury the puck on this one; we have another game tonight at the Rangers.

The #Bruins' third line has been terrible early on. What needs to be changed? #THW https://t.co/CP9haMnXc7

— Cam Hasbrouck THW (@CamHasbrouck) October 26, 2016

Just the third line, huh?

Miss Muse

Yeah, uh, why pick on JUST the 3rd line, hm?

carvinbass18

I think more concerning is that the 2nd line hasn’t gotten anything going. (partly because has the 2nd line even played more than 1 game together?)

Hell why not the 1st line? They haven’t done anything in these losses either.

Zane McIntyre confirmed as the starting goalie tonight vs. Rangers, per Julien.

Ouch

Poor Malcolm. They’re not doing much to help him, are they?

phonymahoney

I’m hoping both goalies knew this was the original plan and that Malcolm doesn’t think it was due to last night.

Me too.

So who sits? Hayes? Heinen?

carvinbass18

Probably Heinen. After having a balling preseason he’s gone full Riley Smith on us

Miss Muse

Pssst…it’s Reilly.

Meh, reilly / riley / rielly / reielleeei / they’re all dumb names :-p

All derivatives of Ó Raghallaigh, a very old and noble Irish name, Sir.

It is, however, Riley Nash. And Morgan Rielly (Really!).

Morning all,

Slept on my neck wrong last night so that’s fun.

I guess this is also what 40 feels like. smile

I agree with phony, especially if we are back on the horse in NY today, give the start to Malcolm. I personally feel we need a day to recover from that game as fans, but hopefully, playing that badly in front of the home crowd will make them angry enough to do well in New York?

They totally need to put Subban back in. Otherwise he is never going to get over the hump.

The London Bear

Zane starts, apparently

I hope they split the game, or that this was the original plan. I don’t want Malcolm to lose it.

I just wrote a quiz question (What was Andrew Jackson’s nickname?) and made one of the options “Hard Wood.”

I’m pleased with myself.

You’ll be pleased with yourself until a significant number of students mark that as their answer. smile

Sweeney also announced the following update on forward David Backes :

“David Backes underwent the removal of the olecranon bursa from his elbow

Unfortunately he didn’t issue an update suitable for those of us who aren’t doctors…

I have a behind the scenes of Sweeney after realizing he still has McQuaid on the books

I played hockey last night! We won 5-1

phonymahoney

Thank god somebody we like played hockey last night and won!
I’m glad it wasn’t 5-0, because then I’d think that
a) you play for the Minnesota Wild
b) all the hockey things you do will bear the opposite results of what the Bruins do – bizarro hockey!

Mornin’

First the positives:
1) The Bs started well for a change
2) It wasn’t the Habs that did that to us.
That’s all I got.

Terrible game. Doesn’t matter who is in goal – if you don’t score a goal you will not win.

It put me in mind of last season’s finale disaster against Ottawa. Just unbelievably terrible.

I thought Krejci was having his best game of the year so far until Quaider took him out. Haven’t seen an update on DK.

They mentioned on the commentary that Backes was absent due to “an issue, not an injury”. Something personal, then?

Can we get rid of McQuaid? I know no GM in his right mind would take him off our hands, but there must surely be some GMs who aren’t in their right minds. Chia, I’m looking at you…

We have to package him with someone…maybe Spooner and a 1st.

And then what do you get back?
Troooouba? Lindholm?

probably not enough for either of those guys

right now id just be happy with the roster spots and cap space. Sign Pasta with the money, deal with an average season…wait till the stock is low for anyone you want to replace Chara as a top pairing and wait for the D prospects to make the try outs next year and start over.

Hell, if you wanna throw in Lauzon in there with spooner and quaid and the pick to get Trouba thats something that will be hated by half the fan base and loved by another….i honestly dont really have the passion right now to care either way.

phonymahoney
Editor

I’m very iffy on moving Lauzon, but i’m catching what you’re throwing

Thetallest81

I dunno what they deem a “need” …gotta give up someone if its JFK, Gryz, Lauzon, Zboril….they are gonna want a replacement D prospect or NHL ready…and i doubt you can make them bite on Chiller or Morrow.

carvinbass18
Editor

I’d say swap Lauzon with Zboril & I’m game.

I mean the longer you wait on Trouba / Lindholm the less their value will be worth right?
