Morning Free Association: November 28

After dropping all three games last week, the Bruins came up with a win yesterday against the Tampa Bay Lightning, 4-1. It would have been great to see Tuukka get another shutout but you can’t get much better than only allowing one goal.

That In-Between Period was where the action was at with goals from Dominic Moore, Torey Krug Patrice Bergeron David Backes, and Jimmy Hayes. JIMMY HAYES! Yes, it was the first point of the season (20 games played) and his first goal in 35 games. That’s a long time. He even threw the monkey off his back.

However, this win was not all smooth skating. John-Michael Liles left the first period with an upper body injury and didn’t return. Now, the Bruins are down two defensemen for some period of time. It’s time for Kevan to rise up and shine.

How about that fourth line? Yesterday it scored 2 goals. Moore is having a great season so far with 6. Who would think we’d be interested in what they’re doing?

Are we doing Secret Santa this year? Some of us did it last year and it was fun. Do we want to do it again?

Morning (is it still morning?)!

Christmas lights, tree, and decorations are already up. Ahead of the game this year. Now if only I had a clue what I was buying, um, anyone really.

I’m already done with today. I think I can see the top of my to-do list somewhere around the roof of our (2-story) building. And somehow it’s already 11AM. WHEEEEEE!

The Panthers fired their coach after last night’s loss to the Hurricanes…and…er…left him behind in Carolina:

Seriously, though. Did they think this would look good for their team? The firing was already strange enough.

Whatever their decision, the team should have at least chartered a private car to get the guy to the airport. This just seemed especially cruel. I guess that’s just business, but it really rubs me the wrong way.

For all we know, that is what they did. I think the caption is misleading

Perhaps. By “private car” I meant not the general yellow cab we plebs would have to take. It’s an NHL franchise, they could pony up for the upgrade. It’s just not a good look, I think.

And c’mon – when you’re hiring a cab to take someone to RDU, you call the RDU cab company! They’re more reliable and have a better rate.

They can stay at my place for a few days.

I mean, I get they were under performing but they’ve also been dealing with a lot of injuries.

– Woo! I live over here now! I can do Secret Santa!
– Tuukka was huge yesterday. We really needed him to bail out the team after Liles went down, and he did.
– That said, Kevan Miller really stepped up in a big way yesterday. Heck of a game for him, and he lead the team in TOI.
– Was it just me, or did the shots you’d expect to maybe be goals ended up not being goals and the junky garbage whatever shots ended up being goals?
– Oh, speaking of people who got top-pair minutes, Dougie had top-pair minutes last night for Calgary in a 5-3 loss to the Flyers. He had two assists, but that was after the Flyers were already up 5-1. #myfavoritenarrative
– Sister killed it yesterday with the cat gifs. Loved the power play one.

I had so many cat gif tabs open yesterday. Sad cat gifs. Angry cat gifs. Scared cat gifs. Party cat gifs. Fighting cat gifs.

I was fully committed to the cat gif gimmick yesterday.

Quiet probably wasn’t the best choice of words for our turkey day. I received an 8 am call about the kitchen sink drain being blocked. It was really blocked and I wound up in a nasty crawl space coughing and puking over the dust in the air and the shite that came out of the pipe. The Mrs was directly overhead cooking so I couldn’t even curse while I was in there. It was nasty, but it does guarantee the boss’ love for another year or so. Things could only get better from there and they did.

I’d totally do a Secret Santa again! Last year was fun!

What’s this “Pass to a teammate” thing? Has it always been there and I just missed it?

Clicking on it brings up facebook and twitter icons, so maybe it’s a share feature?

Yep. It will stuff the text of a comment and a link to the parent article into a social media post. I was updating site software and turned it on.
There’s a ‘major’ software version update of the comment system coming up (that I’ve been a little afraid to install) so I was poking around there and also I want to see if I can reduce the refresh rate for comments on phones – it gets pretty gummy when the number of comments goes up.

Hey, I can totally see the new upgrade. The user icons are circular now. smile

Err… most of this has survived the upgrade.
