Morning Free Association: February 1

The Bruins are riding a three-game win streak after winning against Tampa Bay last night. Let’s break it down.

First Period:

“The Bruins have had some sketchy moments in their own zone.”- Jack Edwards, just before the halfway mark of the period

Alex Killorn and Jimmy Hayes had a sort of disagreement over something and went for it at 10:14. The showdown seemed to be more a wrestling match than a true fight. Twitter user Dafoomie posted it to YouTube for your, er, enjoyment.

Soon after young Brandon Carlo joined Hayes in the box for Hi-Sticking at 10:19. This gave Tampa Bay the Power Play. Hey, that rhymes!

It wouldn’t matter because (spoiler) no one scored this period.

Wait, there was one close moment for the Bruins. Colin Miller made a save scraping the puck out off the line around 13 minute mark.

Second Period:

At 8:41,  Alex Killorn scored the first goal of the game.

You would think that Brad Marchand had learned a lesson last week when he by dodged a bullet paying a steep fine rather than getting suspended.

He managed to make another dangerous trip this time against Anton Stralman that went uncalled against Boston. Darren Dreger later would suggest that DoPS would take a look at this.

Stralman would go on to trip David Pastrnak behind the goal and get called for it soon after.

During the resulting 4-on-4 play, Patrice Bergeron brought his A-game and scored the tying goal.

Within the final second of the second period, David Krejci scored the go-ahead goal to make it 2-1.

Third Period:

Stupid Alex Killorn scored again make it all tied up

Leave it to the captain, Zdeno Chara, to make things right. Chara slapped one on Ben Bishop, it bounced off the pipe and into the goal.

Frank Vatrano got in on the scoring action with a PPG at 12:23.

Bishop left the net with under three minutes to go. With the extra skater, the Bolts were able to score on a shot by Brayden Point.

What followed was an exciting last minute of play full of turnovers, shots directed at the empty net, and diving stops. But the Bruins were able to keep the puck out of their zone for the most part after the Point goal and skate off with the win.
