Morning Free Association: Since Claude’s Been Gone

I get the same old dream
Same time every night
Fall to the ground and I wake up
So I get out of bed, put on my skates and in my head
Thought’s fly by to the break up

The TD Garden’s closing in,
Out on Causeway you’ve put him in

Since Claude’s been gone, since Claude’s been gone
The Bruins could be losing and I cant take it
Could I be wrong, but since Claude’s been gone
Sweeney’s cast a spell so break it

So on the T I sit, beneath the broken lights
I read WEEI that Ty wrote for me
I could take the defense, but not the scoring too
You can’t know what you’ve meant to me

The poor timed presser, during the parade
Just telling you I feel betrayed!

Since Claude’s been gone, since Claude’s been gone
The Bruins could be losing and I cant take it
Could I be wrong, but since Claude’s been gone
Sweeney’s cast a spell so break it
Oh Woah, oh
Since Claude’s been gone

If the B’s could win
the Cup Sweeney
could do no wrong

UH

Since Claude’s been gone, since Claude’s been gone
The Bruins could be losing and I cant take it
Could I be wrong, but since Claude’s been gone
Sweeney’s cast a spell so break it
Oh Woah, oh
Since Claude’s been gone

Since Claude’s been gone, since Claude’s been gone
The Bruins could be losing and I cant take it
Could I be wrong, but since Claude’s been gone
Sweeney’s cast a spell so break it
Oh Woah, oh
Since Claude’s been gone

Boston starts the Bruce Cassidy era 1-0 after a 6-3 against the San Jose Sharks. What do we all think? Will Rask ever get rest?

I think bagels are overrated. I’ll eat ’em, but I don’t understand the cult following.

So Bradders is in a three way tie with Backstrom and Burns for 3rd in scoring at 57 points. 3 points behind Crosby and McDavid, who have 60 points each.

For every bit of not great the Krejci and Backes contracts are, the amazing deal the Bruins have with Marshy and Bergy counter balances them.

Gooooood Morning!!!!!!!!!!
I’m feeling bright eyed and bushy tailed this morning! No worries, I’ll talk myself out of it.
Awesome snow day with Jo yesterday. Movies and coziness, shoveling together and hot toddies or hot chocolate after. Cap it off with Bruins winning in quota style on a very large home theater type screen, yup – bottle that for me. I’ll take as much as I can get.
Need to go shovel Jo’s mom out this morn. (She’s not going anywhere). Nice morning for a drive in the country and a bit of exercise (I must be feelin’ good to say this. “Fuck shoveling!” says the lil devil on the other shoulder, “pour some bourbon.”)
I’ll leave you with this:
No Chara, no problem?
Talk to yas latah!

Morning all. Waking up to find out the Bruins won with a quota is fun. Waking up to find out it balls ass cold outside is not fun.

Mornin’ home Skillets.

Interesting piece here from Ty Anderson who already managed to quantify one of the changes with Cassidy coaching. One game does not a sample size make, but interesting nonetheless.

Yeah, it was fun to see them actually get closer to the net. One of my frustrations under Claude. When Claude wanted to see better shot quality, it meant that they would still hang out around the perimeter – they’d just hang onto the puck longer, waiting for a golden opportunity to miraculously arrive.
It’s one game. Two days after they collectively got a hot poker shoved up their hindquarters. But it will be interesting to see if they sustain this attacking style.

This always drove me crazy with him – crash the net, get some rebounds!
I know Claude doesn’t want to put guys in situations where we’re exposed defensively because the players have gone low and can’t get back fast enough, BUT going low is also how you score goals.

DrHandgrenaid

This is a thing too… Claude’s (good) big dudes were shooters, not garbage men- Looch and Horton weren’t net crashers despite being prototypical power forwards. The best net guys Claude had were Recchi and Loui- neither of whom were net crashers either.

I wonder if its just a style of play Claude doesn’t know how to really work with.

Very good point. Bergy crashes the net better than Looch ever did.

It all would explain that dark time when he made Chara the net guy on the the first power play unit #GeoffWardNeverForgetNeverAgain

Definitely some other positive signs here though- Backes driving to the net in the way we were told to expect and haven’t really seen for example. And I think we could really see an explosion of some of the guys who succeeded under Cassidy here- Vatrano is the big one in that regard (He and Spooner need a not Jimmy Hayes RW, but then again in my aborted Jimmy Hayes study last summer (3,000 words, still in a document on my desktop sigh) I did conclude that on paper a Vatrano-Spooner-Hayes line was likely to be the best application of both Spooner and Hayes. But then Hayes has been even worse than last year so ::carlshrug::

Maybe if Hayes gets a longer look with those two, it could help all three of them.

You have a speedy playmaker in Spooner, you have a volume shooter in Vatrano, and a garbage man in Hayes. Sounds like it should work. Of course, “should” is different from “will”.

That trio had some of the best possession numbers for either Spooner or Hayes last season in very limited minutes (by which I mean it was the only line combo featuring those two that wasn’t a possession disaster of apocalyptic proportions)

Morning!

-Been MIA all week. What a crazy one it’s been.
-From what little of the game I saw last night, I heard something about “Razzle Dazzle” and laughed.
SCORE ALL THE GOALS (QUOTA!)
-Seriously, I turned on the game late in the 2nd and was like “Did I turn on the right game?”
-Have to admit, when I first saw the title of this post, I thought you were basing it on Kelly Clarkson’s song of the same name.
-Looking like I’ll have to come in for a few hours again tomorrow. Not happy about that. One day off just isn’t enough.
-I hate shopping for new cars. But my wife’s car is falling apart at the seams, won’t fit a stroller, and now I think the transmission is going. It’s time.
-I’m done shoveling. I quit. Sadly, I have no where to store a snowblower even if I bought one. And I’m too cheap to buy one, anyways.
-Happy Friday everyone. We made it.

I’m not much of a fan of Rainbow post-RJD’s departure, but that would’ve been so much worse.

I heard Jaffe say that and thought of you and VA!
