Morning Free Association: April 11

As you and the entire Boston fanbase must know by now, the Bruins signed Charlie McAvoy to a three-year entry level contract which is effective immediately. McAvoy practiced with the big club on Monday, wearing 73.

Don Sweeney addressed the media yesterday after the signing, telling the assembled media members why he went ahead with the signing.

Charlie isn’t necessarily a lock for game play, though.

Other info that came out about injured defensemen Brandon Carlo and Torey Krug.

The Globe’s Fluto Shinzawa tweeted about Noel Acciari and the possibility of Anders Bjork.

Zane McIntyre was recalled on an emergency basis from the Providence Bruins.

Around the League:

  • The LA Kings fired head coach Darryl Sutter and general manager Dean Lombardi
  • In a totally unsurprising move, the Vancouver Canucks have fired Willie Desjardins
  • Tom Rowe is out as GM/ HC of the Panthers, stays on as special advisor to new/ old GM Dale Tallon.

  • The NHL Bracket Challenge had such a smooth roll-out yesterday, with the site being down, timing out, and not informing participants that they had an accepted bracket. All of these things happened to me, too. Still, don’t be deterred- you have until 6:59pm EDT Wednesday to get it done. It’s fun, I swear!
