Morning Free Association: Bruins WIN Game 1

That game last night was an amazing show of the Bruins resolve.

Things You Should Know About Game 1:

  • Charlie McAvoy made his Bruins début looking confident and poised. He was second only to captain Zdeno Chara in time on ice.

  • Ottawa was held to a solitary goal from Bobby Ryan in the second period.

  • Boston had no shots on goal in the second period which lead to some snark from the Senators Twitter account…and others to snark back.

  • Colin Miller was injured in a collision with Mark Borowiecki in the middle frame. He came back briefly in the second only to leave the game again.

  • Frank Vatrano scored his first playoff goal to get the B’s on the board.

  • There were plenty of phantom calls like this one:

  • Brad Marchand came up big to score the game winner late in the third. I call this the phantom goal because try as I might, I cannot even see the puck go in.

The swimming pool here was a casualty of winter. Liner torn, still 4 feet of water in the bottom. Today I tried to siphon the rest out as the pool is at the top of a hill. I sucked the equivalent of pond water through a 100 foot hose only to swallow some. Now that I ( and you, I assume ) am done puking, a bourbon rinse and a shot just to kill germs.

No plans at this moment to bring Krug or Carlo to Ottawa. Both are day to day, per Cassidy.

Might have been different if they were 0 – 1.

Hey all, sorry couldnt post while watching. My internet drops if i use it with my Cell while streaming..its a PITA and havnt figured out yet why the AP does it.

So…that was a pleasant surprise! I figured the team was doomed after the Ryan goal, nice to see them respond in the 3rd.

Tuukka was fantastic, i hope no one still thinks hes a waste of space. If he Stands on his head this post season and gets us further then we deserve ill shut up forever about him not being worth 7mil.

McAvoy was a seamless replacement, i know Jack pretty much couldnt shut up about him but it was nice to see him exceed my expectations. He did more than just tread water, he made nice decisive crisp passing plays and thats something this team has been very frustrating with against OTT.

Marchy’s goal was filthy. I did not see it the first time. I dont know if it was possibly to see it. All i know was there was chaos and then there was people celebrating. And then i yelled a lot.

Can we keep Stafford next year? I really really like his play.

Can we please stop letting other teams headhunt our Defense. There have been a lot of borderline boarding plays that have gone uncalled and i feel like the refs have been letting stuff go which is fine for keeping pace going in playoff hockey…but hopefully they are at least giving warnings out there if they start seeing some reckless behavior.

I think the puck got stuck in the padding of the back of the net, possibly where the camera is.

I love it when that happens. It’s usually cause for chirping a goalie (especially cranky, whiny goalies). “Oh, excuse me goal. I’ve got to get that puck – it’s waaaay in the back of the net”. “Welp, no denying that one’s a goal, is there, pal?”

I fucking love Drew Stafford. What a great pickup.

Stafford had a great screen set up on the Frankie goal. He paid the price, too. Buried after the puck went in.

I couldn’t even make out who it was that gave Stafford the business. It just seemed that the guy wasn’t even aware the puck got into his net.

Ryan stole the puck from Quaider and Quaider clubs him over the back like he was using a light sabre!!

Morning all.

What an amazing performance!
-Half the team had never played in the playoffs.
-All the injuries
-Lost five straight against the Sens, including two in games of huge significance.
-On the road.

McAvoy looked fantastic. Tuukka “can’t play in big games” Rask was lights-out. Everyone seemed to play a responsible, smart game. Hopefully they can keep that going!

I have horrible news for you all.

I’m going to miss game two all together because I made plans before the schedule was out & it’s my nephews birthday too. but, on the bright side.

FUCK YEAH WE WON GAME ONE

Morning, pals! And it’s a GOOD morning!

  • Other than the second period, they looked good last night. It was NOT boring hockey, and they really didn’t have trouble with the trap.
  • Charlie McAvoy didn’t skip a beat. Jesus Christ.
  • I think when people come back from injury, the D-corps is going to pose some interesting questions for Butch Cassidy.
  • With that, who do you sit? Liles and Chiller? McAvoy because he’s low man on the totem pole (this would be stupid)? Carlo? There’s no way they ever sit McQuaid given how many playoff appearances he’s had, and I don’t think sitting Killer is the answer because he’s actually been playing very well lately. He had a solid game last night. So, what do you do? Very curious.

  • This made me tear up a little, because that’s how I am:
  • Big smile postgame for Charlie McAvoy. “I love playing hockey.”

    — Fluto Shinzawa (@GlobeFluto) April 13, 2017

  • Also had a great game: The Flying Finnish King, Tuukka Rask.
  • I am prepared to fight the entire internet for Charlie McAvoy.
  • I’m fighting for Charlie McAvoy’s honor. #droppingbombs #watchthegame #bigdummy pic.twitter.com/n8kAKWMpvU

I think this is a non-issue. At the rate we keep losing Dmen (1 per game) finding one to sit is a better problem then finding one to play. If carlo’s injury was a brain injury he is required to sit till all symptoms are no longer present. Krug is day to day and if C. Miller is out with a knee injury then I would assume McAvoy would fill C. Miller’s spot once Krug returns.

Problem is Krug did not travel with team if he is ok to play for game 2….if C. Miller is Down you will end up with Morrow filling C. Millers spot for Game two.

That would be news, I was expecting him to be in for game 3. i only heard not traveling to OTT and day to day. Originally all I heard was “definitely not playing first game.”

    carvinbass18

I think it depends on who comes back first. If it’s Krug it has to be Liles to sit. Carlo gives you more questions though. McQuaid was okay last night, but really the defenseman who gave me all sorts of panic when he was on the ice was Chara. Sure, McQuaid got beat by Ryan to the puck, but it was Chara who really just let him waltz in for 2 scoring chances in front of Rask. Should have just flattened him instead of going for a stick check.

That dude in your tweet is a fuck moron. What the hell was he watching / smoking / ingesting / inserting to be so unfathomably wrong????

    Hey Pals!!!!
Bs have not lost a playoff game for three seasons – wow!
So, I have to play kayak polo every night the Bs have a playoff game? Okay!
I know everyone has been a bit down on Frankie. He can be taught the defensive aspect of the game, but scoring touch like he has – not so much.
Coffee and big smiles all day!!!!!!

Admittedly, I have 100% been down on Frankie. It’s just that if he’s not scoring… what IS he doing? You know? That said, if he’s scoring, I have no complaints.

he looks like a man lost out there. It’s not that he’s Riley Smithing us by not doing things. It’s probably worse, there was a play in the 1st or 2nd where he had a line on the puck in the defensive zone, could have won the footrace, then battled his way out of it with his speed, but he stood on his heels and i yelled at the tv “GO GET THE PUCK”. Hopefully this goal is a confidence booster for him.

Give him a couple seasons. Remember what a defensive disaster Spoons used to be.

Good point. I’m waiting for him to find his ability to finish, still, though.
