Morning Free Association: May 1

So, it’s been pretty quiet since Boston was knocked out of the Stanley Cup Playoffs last Sunday.

  • Of course, Bruce Cassidy was named the head coach of the Bruins last week. For those who missed it, he gave a great interview with Toucher and Rich during which he proclaimed that he’s always hated the Habs. (The audio of the interview is embedded in the page.)
  • Looking ahead this week, it looks like Jeremy, Charlie, and Cam will be giving their end of season thoughts in a presser on Tuesday at 10am.
  • The Providence Bruins have made it through the first round of the Calder Cup Playoffs, defeating the Pittsburgh’s AHL affiliate the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins. Netminder Zane McIntyre was as close to a brick wall as a goalie gets in the victory.

Next up they face the Hershey Bears (Capitals AHL team). You’ll have to wait until Thursday May 11th for the first home game of that series.

It’s official. I am moving to Raleigh in July. Today also marks five years of me living in Winston-Salem (for the third time.)

    Morning all.

So what is the Bruins’ backup situation for next year?

Dobby has another year on his contract and did great in his last few starts but Zane has been solid in PVD all year.

Is he ready to come up? Do we want him to? What’s Malcolm doing? Will the F’ing Knights take one of our goalies?

Great Britain’s hockey team won promotion to the second tier of the World Championships on Saturday.

Unfortunately it’s not likely to improve the sport’s popularity over here, at least not in the south of the country, where I live.

It’s much more popular in the north, for some reason, though still very much a minority sport.

I can’t understand why it’s not more popular in UK, and even in US for that matter…

holy hell 50 saves!? Also, that jersey is beautiful.

So the draft lottery happened over the weekend and hilarious things happened. Colorado was so bad they didn’t get the number 1, number 2, or number 3 pick and fell all the way to fourth!!! Chumps. How the Flyers moved up 11 spots to get number two is just crazy to me. I liked the “move four spots up” method from before, but this adds one hell of a twist for the non playoff teams. Sad to see Vegas get hosed with the #6, but that’s life.

Got some more work done on the porch Sunday. I’ll probably be done with it in 2020 by the rate I’m going on it.

    Good morning, pals!
Paddled all day on the home river Saturday, stayed in town and had a very productive Sunday. New roof joists in the crappy addition. Cut the top off the end wall and put a new header on it, as well. Progress!
We also experienced Saturday night at the bar. Wow. Hillbilly heaven.
I won’t mind at all if the Tootsies beat Handsome Hank and the Rags.
