Nashville did it; they made it to the Stanley Cup Final. Last night the Toothy Cats advanced by beating the Anaheim Ducks with Colton Sissons’ hat trick, two by Austin Watson, and an additional empty net goal by Filip Forsberg. It was a beautiful win.
Throughout the playoffs, the second wild card in the Western Conference lost no more than two games to any opponent, most notably beating the Blackhawks in four games. Even with injuries taking forwards Kevin Fiala (femur), Ryan Johansen (acute compartment syndrome), and Mike Fisher (UBI) in the last two series, the Preds remained hungry for the final berth.
Whether you’re rooting for this team in their first-ever Stanley Cup Final appearance or individual players like first-year Preds player PK Subban, you have to admit that this side f the final will be pretty exciting to watch. I for one am glad I latched onto the Preds last year during the playoffs, was able to catch a game down in The Music City, and that I’m able to see this team’s fun brand of hockey in the final this season. Although I’d much rather see the Bruins in it, I’m glad that my second team got there this year.
Who knows – with a little luck and a whole bunch of drive, we could see a Bruins team make it next year.
