Morning Free Association: What Should Donny Do?

Saturday July 1st, marks the start of the new NHL year. It seems fitting that Canada Day is the day on which NHL free agency begins so that players can celebrate their fat deals with (presumably) new teams. For your information, Satan81 will be setting up a thread and I will be sitting around for most of the day populating the Free Agent Table to contain the information that you care so much about. So, come on by and comment as you wish.

Now, the Bruins can definitely use a left-shooting defenseman and help on the wings. Don Sweeney addressed this (L D)after the end of the Bruins’ season. While he was open to making a deal during the draft, he left the draft with shiny new draftees from all the picks he originally had. Donny also has to re-sign David Pastrnak to a huge, very long, deal so he can remain a Bruin forever (or something like that) and he qualified a bunch of RFAs yesterday so it remains to be seen as to what he can do in free agency. According to Cap Friendly, the Bruins’ projected cap space next season is $13,468,332. While that is a large sum, it’s not much when considering all the signings that need to happen.

There are rumours that the Bruins are interested in a number of UFAs:

I’m not sure what to think about the B’s going in on the Shattenkirk sweepstakes. Or the late-career Return of Jumbo Joe, noted Bruins killer but lately lackluster Thomas Vanek. Do they think Brian Boyle will spark fellow townie Jimmy Hayes? I’ll take a hard pass on Shane Doan, thanks.

What do you think? who would you like to see in the new Adidas Bruins uniforms next season? Have a little fun and go wild!
