As many of you have probably heard by now, there was an RFA signing yesterday, although it may not be the one you really wanted.
Yes, Noel Acciari, your second favourite Rhode Islander signed a two-year one-way deal worth $725,000 per year.
— Boston Bruins (@NHLBruins) June 28, 2017
This deal means the Bruins really must believe in him and his play after he has spent parts of each of the past two seasons up with the big club and down in Providence. Last season’s stint in Providence turned out to be for rehab after an injury.
Acciari attributes his playing style to watching the Bruins play, especially that of the Stanley Cup winning team in 2011.
The way the team played, particularly during his youth, appealed to him greatly. As a teenager, Acciari watched as Boston surged to its first Stanley Cup title in 39 years in 2011 and drew inspiration from the passion and commitment with which that group played en route to hoisting hockey’s holy grail.
“I think I was a senior in high school and just watching how the grit got them there and how they kept playing like there’s no tomorrow,” Acciari said. “I think that’s the way I have to play every day. Play every game as if it was my last and just kind of focus on that.”
This definitely explains why several of us have taken a shine to him.
