Free Agent Frenzy Thread!!!!

Free agent frenzy starts at noon!!!!

The Bruins have signed someone!

Kenny Agostino is a 6-0, 202 lb., 25-year-old left winger who was drafted out of Yale by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 5th round (#140) of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. He never played a game in the Penguins’ system as he was traded to Calgary as part of the Jarome Iginla trade. He spent a couple of years in the Flames’ system but signed a one-year contract with the Blues after the Flames didn’t tender him a qualifying offer. In the 2016-2017 season for the Chicago Wolves (AHL, Blues’ affiliate), Agostino won the AHL’s MVP award and led the league in scoring with 24 goals and 59 assists. He hasn’t had much success at the NHL level, with only 5 points in 17 games. In addition, the Bruins are now his fourth NHL team. My guess is that he continues being a career AHLer, but I’m also known around here for not putting a lot of stock into AHL scoring leaders given their track record at the NHL level. However, he might surprise – perhaps he’s a late bloomer. There’ve been some AHL scoring leaders who’ve done well in the NHL, such as Jason Spezza.

As for the rest of the league…

Is Karl Alzner going to the Habs? What happens to Markov?
We know the talk of Shattenkirk signing with the Bruins is bunk, so is he going the Rangers?
Duchene to the Blue Jackets? To the Pens? To the Habs?
What do the Pens do about their defense? They have to sign three defensemen!
What do the Sharks do about Marleau and Thornton? Is Thornton going to the Kings?
What are the Bruins going to do? What defenseman should they get to prevent us from having a Quaider-Killer bottom pair? Is there a top-6 forward we should sign to a one-year contract?

My crazy prediction: the Habs offer-sheet Leon Draisaitl. It makes too much sense. The Habs are desperate for a 1C. They have the cap space and the draft picks to make a big offer (like $9.8 million/yr). With the rumored $13.5 million/yr contract to Connor McDavid – and $10 million/yr locked up in NMC contracts to Lucic and Russell – the Oilers will be in a serious salary cap bind.

UPDATE: Looks like Alzner to the Habs.

I’m totally OK with HIM going to another team in the division, especially if it’s the ToiletSeats!

Yeah, we can make this exception.

Did anyone else hear about this?

Ryan Miller going to Anaheim to back up John Gibson. It’s good for his family since his wife is an actress having done some Hollywood.
