It’s been a slow summer. Free Agency didn’t provide the boom that most people wanted. The only thing to talk about is the lack of signings, especially those that should be relatively simple internal deals like RFA signings.
Of course, 21 year-old Bruins winger David Pastrnak remains unsigned. There is speculation that his deal is being held up by Leon Draisaitl contract negotiations. We covered this some time ago and now that rumour is coming from Joe Haggerty, I’m not sure if this is the issue nor is it even the biggest piece of speculation out there.
Yesterday, Bruins Twitter, hell Hockey Twitter was aflame with David Pastrnak trade rumours. This time they came from Brian Lawton, an analyst who seems to be a jack of all trades (and master of none) around the NHL.

Surely, this couldn’t be. The Bruins wouldn’t do this yet again, would they?
Don Sweeney has admitted that negotiations have hit a snag.
Of course, the process of negotiations has its ebbs and flows, and any information that comes out from either side can generally be attributed to posturing.
However, there might be reason for some concern from Bruins fans, after general manager Don Sweeney admitted at the end of July that the Bruins and Pastrnak’s camp were in a bit of a standstill.
“We are in a holding pattern,” Sweeney said on July 31. “I have not made as much progress as what I would have liked, but we have plenty of time and the opportunity to continue to talk and we will find a landing spot.”
This could all be just maneuvering by Pasta’s agent, just saying things to up the ante.
David has never shown any indication that he doesn’t love playing for Boston or being in Boston. Hell, he went to China to be
a shill for the NHL owners an ambassador of the game for the Bruins. He wouldn’t have done that if he didn’t want to re-sign.
At least one person tried his hand at levity of the situation.
Whew. Glad it’s not Pastrnak. https://t.co/Z8sc3xFWnM

Now, to appeal on a personal level. A couple years back, I wrote #SignDougie daily before he was traded to Calgary. Others did as well. Since then, I’ve decided to not say it at all. I think we stop should saying this as a greeting or plea to the Hockey Gods. I just feel like we’re going to get burned. Let’s not tempt fate. Enough already.
