Morning Free Association: Six goals a-scoring

Last night was the kind of game the bear cubs needed to play after falling to a dominant and high-flying Predators team on Monday night: not playing from behind, not playing down to their opponents’ level, not losing the game.

The last time the Bruins and Coyotes met up in the desert in October, the B’s were missing plenty of players: David Backes, Patrice Bergeron, and Noel Acciari were all out with injury. Still the team managed to win that one 6-2. Last night, they did it again, even one better, finally getting on the positive side of scoring differential.

First Period:

If you tuned in or arrived at the game late, you missed the first goal. Brad Marchand scored 15 seconds into the game after he, Patrice Bergeron, and David Pastrnak perfected the layers of triangles.

Bruins continued to have some chances but nothing stuck.

Later on in the period, the Notes had to ruin it by scoring. Christian Dvorak scored unassisted after Brandon Carlo turns over the puck in a bad place.

All tied up, 1-1.

Second Period:

The Bruins spent most of the period being hemmed in their own zone without taking a shot on goal. It’s like how the old second periods were played. Finally, nearer the end than the beginning of the period, Riley Nash sets up David Backes’ first goal of the season. Keep in mind that Backes has only played 9 games of the 26 the Bruins have played so far this season.

With 54 seconds to go in the second, Backes took it upon himself to motor down and score yet again.

Bruins go into the room with a 3-1 lead.

Third Period:

This is when the Bruins decided to blow it open.

Starting off the period with a full two-minute power play is a good thing, however, David Krejci only needed 45 seconds.

Seriously, all this passing reminds me of the video I posted to phony’s Christmas decorating bonanza yesterday.

Bergy can’t, Marchy won’t, and Krejci don’t stop.

Arizona had no answer.

Danton Heinen wanted a piece of the action, netting one at 17:56.

Anders Bjork finalized the QUOTA less than a minute later.

Hope the boys can keep the scoring up against the Isles on Saturday night.

Well, the Isles are tied for 2nd-worst in the league in GA/G (with the Notes Totes Yotes being first), so there’s a pretty good chance for it. Of course, they’re also 2nd-best in GF/G, so it could be a high-scoring affair all-around.

Hey hockey pals!

Busy morning here. Fridays are not the same since the office moved. All I am doing is putting out fires!

That just might have been the laziest 6-1 win I’ve ever seen.

Yeah, a friend works nearby and snagged it.

Yeah, it was something. I really like Nash, Backes and Heinen together, though.

Four minutes from the end of the game there was a great bit of defensive strategy from the Bs – fill the goalmouth with bodies! It reminded me of a motorcycle display team.

Morning all. Got home in time for goals five and quota. We had our annual office Christmas card mailing last night before office dinner. Somehow I ended up on postage duty which meant I was stuck in front of the postage meter stamping 475 envelopes.

Nice win. They got it back together after falling asleep at the start of the second. In fact they woke up at about the same time I fell asleep!

Shame Backes couldn’t get his hatty, but it wasn’t for want of trying!

Thinking about recent performances – beating the Pens, beating the Bolts, giving the Preds a good fight – there’s really no-one this team has any reason to worry about playing. Really, the biggest danger to the Bruins is themselves, if they get sloppy and make silly mistakes. Looking forward to the Caps game – seems ages since we beat them.

Calgary snapped a three-game losing streak by beating the Habs. Ha!

It does seem like if you want to snap a losing streak then you should play the Habs.
