Morning Free Association: Les Habs, part deux

Last night many different things were happening at the TD Garden. You could say the primary focus was the game, you know that one against the Habs with former Bruins head coach Claude Julien leading that much hated rival. But you wouldn’t be wrong if you cited the pregame ceremony or the Rene Rancourt presser.

Prior to the game, the Bruins announced that this will be Rene Rancourt last season singing the anthems for the Bruins.

In between periods, he held court.

Wow, he’s been doing this for over 40 years now. Since he wants to crash weddings, perhaps IW and I will have to have a reception after we renew our vows just so he can sing the anthem there. I don’t know if you knew this but we got married during that 2011 Stanley Cup Playoffs run. In fact, the Bruins won against the Flyers that night, 7-3.

In the pregame ceremony, Willie O’Ree was honored on the eve of the 60th anniversary of his breaking the color barrier in the NHL. He looked just as dapper as ever.

Everyone was wearing buttons or patches honoring O’Ree, even the ice behind the goals.

The Game

To make sure that Bruins fans were on top of things and ready for disappointment, the Habs scored first on a flukey goal 31 seconds in. I’m sure somewhere Joe Haggerty felt justified in his Tuukka hate.

Thankfully, it would be the only goal Rask would give up. Although the Habs only had 22 SOG, only 1 made it in. And it’s not like the Habs didn’t have good chances. At one point in the second period, the Habs had a 5-on-3 when Charlie McAvoy, then Brandon Carlo were sent to the penalty box. Zdeno Chara spent a massive amount of time on the ice before and during that penalty kill.

The Bruins would tie it up in the first with this shot:

Score the go ahead goal in the second on this one by Ryan Spooner:

And then add a PPG goal from Marchy and a slo-mo empty net goal by David Krejci.

It was not a good night for Claude but it was a great night for the Bruins.

By the way, you need to check this story out about the Carolina Checkers playing the Bridgeport Sound Tigers yesterday.

Claude Julien tonight
1st period: Tribute video
2nd period: Ryan Spooner scores
3rd period: Gets fired again

As much as I love CJ for what he did for the Bs, that would be funny as hell. I’ve seen a player get traded mid-game (Matt Duchene), but I’ve never seen a coach get canned mid-game!

Now that Lou Lamoriello is out of the GM business, it may never happen. (Unless Torts becomes GM somewhere!)

This is sad! 10 year old dies of flu. Not the best decision to go to his hockey tournament. Stay home if you’re sick!

Speaking of things over there, in my dream last night I was good friends with the Ninth Doctor. We hadn’t seen each other in a while and he gave me a big hug. That was nice.

Just been catching up with Bearly on Topics. Ska line is very clever, they should go with that (as a nickname for the fourth line, if you don’t know what I’m on about).

On a related note, I recommend listening to The Very Best of Madness!

I’m not on board with the ska line. I’d rather not name it unless the name is super awesome.

Morning, hockey pals!

  • Great game last night. I really enjoyed CAAAAAREEEEEEY!” and chanting “OLEEEE OLEOLEOLE OLE OLE!” mockingly as loud as I possibly could.
  • There’s nothing like a Bruins-Habs matchup to get the blood flowing.
  • Claude be looking for a win like

  • When is the next Habs game? Because I can’t wait.
  • I’m gonna be so sad to see our buddy Rene go. I’ve always enjoyed, from a Bruins-Habs standpoint that he has a very French-Canadian name but is American.

  • Hockey meeting tonight. Poopin’ my drawers. Missing the Bruins game, doh.
  • Beef stew at the Four’s was award winning last night.
  • I’m so pumped about beating them twice in a row. PUMPED.
  • In closing, I’d like to say RI{ to the Habs postseason.

Poor Clode. From what I saw of the game (a period and the highlights) it looked pretty one-sided. looked like you had a good time – i enjoyed your pics on instagram.

When is the next Habs game? Because I can’t wait.

Saturday night’s all right for thumping the Habs!

If you go back to last season, we’ve beaten them FOUR times in a row!

So I was planning on working from home today so I could interleave some snow shoveling sessions with work. Then I threw my back out. (probably from thumping my chest)
So now I’m at work and surly, waiting for the ibuprofin to kick in.
    Grrrr…..

Nice win by the B’s last night. There were some times where they made some stupid giveaways, or weren’t moving their feet, but any win over the Habs is a good win.

Only thing that can cure that is MORE CHEST THUMPING! But seriously, hope it heals up. I have a spot in my back that acts up every time I shovel.
