Morning Free Association: One Game Point Streak

Well that was a test and the Bruins totally passed it.

A+

First of all, this month is Hockey is for Everyone Month in the NHL and last night was HIFE Night replete with a pregame ceremony that involved hockey players of different abilities, ethnicities, genders, and ages taking the ice to stand with the starters for the Bruins.

It certainly wasn’t a high scoring effort but when you have your top two centers working it…

…and your goalie making saves worthy of some chest thumping

…and an empty netter from the former captain of the other team.

Tuukka had 32 saves on the night, letting in one on a double deflection. He let that one in! Obviously he must suck! Tuukka deserved the shutout that he didn’t get when the Blues went empty net and he had to deal with a gassed defense and an extra attacker. Not everything can be perfect and that’s ok.

I just love seeing Bergeron this pumped.

Next on Saturday night the Bruins welcome the Maple Leafs of Toronto. That should be fun.

Morning all.

“We just got sick of losing,” Bruins coach Bruce Cassidy quipped after the win.

I agree with the coach. That losing streak was no fun. smile

Morning!

Great win considering the players Bs were missing. Both goalies were incredible all night.

First goal was an ugly one, Krug should probably have been in the box for embelishment on the second one, but sometimes you get the breaks and sometimes you don’t!

Man, how much did Backes want that empty netter? I counted three distinct attempts by him in the last minute grin

Yup, I have to agree with you. We have the luxury of slo mo, watching plays like this in real time is tough. The deep official has to watch the puck. Goal or no goal ( not no goal! ) is his/ her primary decision. The outside ref has a great view, but only from one side of the play. I try to keep a wide view as the deep official (it’s something I work on a lot), but it’s easy to get overly focused on the puck itself, rather than the players around it. Try focusing on players away from the puck. It isn’t easy, even on a replay!

Oh, for sure – I wasn’t knocking the officials. Missed calls are part of the game. Sometimes they go our way, sometimes not – over the season it evens itself out. Adds a bit of uncertainty and spice. That’s one of the reasons I really hate the offside challenge (we haven’t had many of those this year. There will be two in the next game – now I’ve said it, it won’t happen!)

Sometimes I put a bet on a player to score a goal during the match, and you end up just watching him whenever he’s on the ice. It’s a very different watching experience and you do learn a few things!

Some livestreams have star cam features that let you follow the Sids and Ovies of the league.

Didn’t take it as criticism of the officials.. Just know I’ve missed that call. sad
