Game Day Thread: Whalercanes at Bruins

BruinsVsWhalerCanes
The Carolina Hurricanes – nee Whalers – are coming to visit the Bruins tonight.

The Bruins have been on a bit of a slump lately, winning only 2 of their last 5 games, one requiring overtime. Also, star center Patrice Bergeron left the Air Canada Centre wearing a walking boot. You must have heard about this by now:

It’s never good news when your top line centerman is out for at least two weeks -and probably more. However this team dealt with a pile of injuries over this season and will continue to play through this latest one. The Bruins have plenty of centers to swap around and two new wingers so it’s more a question of quick chemistry and jigsaw puzzle solving.

The Bruins were one of the busier teams at the trade deadline, acquiring Rangers Rick Nash and Nick Holden, Blackhawk Tommy Wingels, and free agent Brian Gionta.

Rick Nash suited up for the Bs against the Sabres, drawing a penalty and ringing a post – which, while not exemplary, was one of the best Bruin performances of the game. Tonight, we expect to see him again as well as other new guy,Tommy Wingels, filling out the puzzle.

Let’s do some lines…

After a brief time within the wild card slots, Carolina has fallen in the standings are about 5 points out of the playoff structure. They weren’t buyers at the deadline and it seems that their season is all but done. We’ll get to see the false Rask, the other Sebastian Aho who plays forward, and our trade deadline pickup from two seasons ago, Lee Stempniak.

Jordan Staal is on indefinite leave and did not travel with the team after the loss of his infant daughter this weekend. No parent should ever have to go through such a loss.
