Well, last night the Bruins GM certainly looked like the #Sweenius when two of his new acquisitions panned out. Yes, both Rick Nash (New Guy #1) and Timmy Wingels (for the sake of likelihood of his playing, New Guy #2) scored their first goals as Bruins.
Conveniently enough, Rick Nash’s first goal was the first Bruins score of the game.

Rick wasn’t the only Nash to get on the board. With Carolina up by two goals in that first period, Tommy Wingels made a great effort to get the puck away from not one but two Hurricane defenders (no, not conspiracy theorists) and out into an open area where Riley Nash could take aim at the net.

Tommy Wingels wasn’t done yet. His goal would tie up the game in the second.

Tommy Wingels had a goal, an assist, seven shot attempts, a plus-2 goal differential, 53.33 Corsi percentage and 15:06 of ice time in his debut for the Bruins.

He’s right, Boston is the kind of place you want to go to when you’re traded. It looks like new teammate David Backes picked up the puck for him on his first goal as a Bruin.
Then Charlie took charge in overtime just over a minute in.

Yeah, the B’s looked sloppy in the first but still managed to score two after going down by three but they managed to keep the Canes scoreless after that. They’ll take that win and get ready for the Pens on Thursday night.
How the hell do we still have five games in hand on Toronto?
Because Toronto has played 66 games….THATS A LOT.
And the Bruins only have one spot in the rest of the season where they’re not playing every other night. And that one is a whopping 2 nights off between MTL on 3/3 and DET on 3/6. They had at least 2 stretches of 3 or more nights off in every month from October to February.
It makes me wonder who builds the Bruins schedule. They’re probably a Habs fan
With their position in the standings, it gives the Bs opportunities to rest players by plugging in some of the new guys. What’s Holden back Nick, anyway?
Money in da bank. Yo!
Woo! Got to see the first goals as Bruins by Nash and Wingels in person!
Sloppy, sloppy game. Solid evidence that Bergy deserves the Hart Trophy given how they played in his absence. But good to see them not quit.
Wow, you really notice when Rick Nash is on the ice. I forgot what having a real power forward is like. Love his commitment to the 200-foot game, too.
Had an eye exam today. Got a prescription for reading glasses. Eyes are totally dilated. If I go outside, everything is made out of lightbulbs.
I realise I’m way late with this, but just noticed Chicago are going to miss the playoffs for the first time in ten years! Completely passed me by!
It’s beautiful, isn’t it.
Made even more beautiful by the fact that MTL won’t be in them either. It’s the first time since ’07 that the playoffs have been both ‘Hawks- and Habs-free!
Hey hockey pals!
So how is Mamma Mahoney?
They could be a real chemistry line so they’re only going to get better! Playing with those two could get Debrusk higher in the Calder voting. He won’t win it of course, but maybe people will shut up about Barzal at least.
So, how is Mamma Mahoney?
Oh, Riley we’re all worse than St Patrice.

Welcome new guy!

Shit, I wrote this up so late that I forgot to add this particular feat by this Nash because brain no worky.

I like it when our players have this kind of wherewithal . Keep it up New Guy #1
That was fantastic, but from this angle it sure looks like the puck crossed the line:
https://twitter.com/NHL/status/968864767707361281
But, the whole puck has to cross the line – I don’t think the entire thing gets across?
I thought I saw space between the line and the puck, but it might just be because the puck is in the air.
I’m sure the refs looked at it more closely than me! Still, brilliant that Nash both scored a goal and prevented one at the other end. He’s so fast! Especially for a big guy.
Oh you Nashty boys!

I’m very happy to see Nash-61 and Wingels having an impact right out of the gate.
But ugh, that was an ugly one. I’m getting increasingly frustrated by this team’s inability to play their best earlier in games, against inferior competition.
Although Riley has been here longer, I want to call him Nash 2.0.
Then you need to sneak into the Bs’ dressing room and put a decimal point on all his jerseys!
This seems like a good plan
And this song plays through my head every time I think about one or both of the Nashes.
I keep thinking of them as the Nash Brothers….you know…instead of the “Bash Brothers”
Such forearms. Much steroids.

Morning all. Crashed when they tied it. Bummed there was no Nash Trick but glad the Bruins agree with me that two losses in a row is enough.
I fell asleep just before the o/t goal while watching Bs in 2!!
Woke up again just afterwards to see some exercise infomercial, too early for recaps on computer, me wide awake….
Nash + Wingles = Sweenius!
I only saw the first period live – that was enough to shred my nerves. What’s happened to the PK? Ok, I know with Marchy in the box and Bergy out that’s a massively depleted PK unit, but still.
The Bs seem to have reacquired their nasty habit of getting pinned in their zone, too. Still, hopefully it’s just a blip – we know what they are capable of.
At times they’ve looked to be lacking confidence recently – hopefully a strong showing against the Pens will rebuild that confidence.
The snow is taking its toll on our transport system – miserable trip into the office this morning. The sun is out now though …
It’s natural for teams to have slumps. I think this one is timed perfectly….. I’m hoping they get on a roll heading into April.
Isn’t that how 2011 went?
That’s what I was kinda consoling myself with last night – plenty of time to get the mojo back working.
They finished the 2013 regular season in a bit of a funk as I recall and look what happened there!
The brighter yet side – they still managed two points in a game where they played about 25 minutes
They’ve been having strong showings against the good teams. What they need is to be ready to play from the first puck-drop against the crappy ones.
