I wish I could say there was an update on Charlie McAvoy. All I know is that he’s wearing a brace on his left knee and he won’t be playing tonight.
Dr. Jess Flynn, who writes consults for Boston Sports Journal and NBC Sports Boston, had an opinion on what the exact injury could be.
If you watch McAvoy's left knee as he hits the boards it bends inward in a valgus position. Looks like a left MCL sprain to me, but I only have one distant view. If mild RTP days to a cpl of wks, if moderate could be 4-6wks. Brace, rest and therapy. https://t.co/32MW7TtYES

An MCL sprain wouldn’t be bad but recovery time would be a few weeks.
While Charlie is out, it looks like Brandon Carlo is moving up to pair with Zdeno Chara. And Chara is ready and willing to play with whomever. We are so lucky to have Oh Captain, My Captain.
With Charlie McAvoy sidelined by a lower-body injury, Brandon Carlo will be reuniting with Zdeno Chara on the B's top pairing.

The important thing is that all is not lost because the Bruins have defensive depth. (Sorry to put up so many paywall articles today but they’re good ones by Joey Mac). Nick Holden is going to stay in the lineup for now and believes he can play his opposite side, the right. So, he may ultimately be paired with either Torey Krug or on the third with Kevan Miller.
We’ll see later on tonight when the Bruins take on the Red Wings.
