Last night the Boston Bruins made a statement — they may not be the faster or younger team but they were the better team, at least last night.
Boston scored five times in total with three of those goals coming on the power play. Here are some useful facts for you to enjoy:
- The Bruins were 3/6 on the power play
- This
The @NHLBruins scored three power-play goals in a playoff game for the third time in the past 25 years (since 1993).
The other instances: Game 1 of the 1994 Conference Quarterfinals vs. MTL and Game 2 of the 2009 Conference Quarterfinals vs. MTL. #NHLStats #TORvsBOS #StanleyCup pic.twitter.com/w9TztxBfu4

- The Maple Leafs were 28th in penalty kill in the month of March. They were bad on the penalty kill last night.
- Two out of our three Davids (Backes, Pastrnak) scored in the second period
-
Tonight, #MapleLeafs with 27 shots on 52 shot attempts. #NHLBruins with 40 shots on 73 attempts.

- Charlie McAvoy led in overall TOI with 20:51, Torey Krug led in PP TOI with 7:14, and Adam McQuaid led in SH TOI with 5:11
- The Leafs were actually called for this tonight
- Brad Marchand was trolling and chirping and generally trying to not get into too much trouble. At one point, he appears to lick Leo Komarov.

And Pierre asks him about it after the game.

Now for the not so fun part. At 8:18 in the third period, this happened:
Full sequence on the Wingels-Kadri incident. Wingels catches Marner up high, but no excuse for the Kadri hit. Gotta be a suspension pic.twitter.com/EEKeUd6t2z

Nazem Kadri was assessed a Game Misconduct and a five-minute penalty for Charging, which was served by James van Riemsdyk. While some Toronto fans are whining that Mitch Marner was hit hit with an elbow by Wingels, it still doesn’t justify this egregious hit. And yet, Leafs fans believe, honestly believe, that this hit was fine and that the refs handed the Bruins the game. Right. It couldn’t be because of your shitty penalty kill or lack of an answer for Sean Kuraly.
I hope that Kadri gets multiple games for this.
Toronto’s Nazem Kadri will have a hearing Friday for boarding/charging Boston’s Tommy Wingels.

And if he doesn’t, he’ll have a friend following him around.

Marc Savard has offered his opinion on Kadri’s douchebaggery.
Oh, and Wingels is questionable and Riley Nash is doubtful for Saturday’s game.
The boss’s dog is trying to kill me. Tripped over her twice so far.
Yeah, you always have to look down around dogs because they always want to be around people and the action.
Or get really tall dogs.

I love Snoop.
Chatting more with Satan81 brought up another question that’s baffling me. Why Wingles? Is there some history there I don’t know about? Just seems random that he was Kadri’s repeated target.
Opposite conferences, so probably not!
He was in Ottawa for a bit, I don’t know if that factors in.
Wow, Ken Hitchcock retired.
Really good coach. Never looked real healthy, I wonder if that’s a factor
Heading to Newport tomorrow……lunch with the moms at Coddington Brew Pub!!!
That sounds like fun! Maybe next time you go, I’ll come down. I want to hear all the stories.
I’ll give you more of a heads up next time. Should be beautiful!!!
Hey hockey pals!

It must have been crazy in the Garden last night!!!!
Jo and I are going to try to see a playoff game…. hoping to get to a big one. There is nothing that compares to the atmosphere in that building in a big game!!
A suspension to Kadri would be tough for the Leafs to bounce back from. He has a lengthy list of priors, five games would not be excessive.
Yeah, my gut was saying 2 games – then I looked at it from the POV of dept player safety — and it sure seems like a long suspension should be forthcoming. But DOPS is a little hard to predict at times so I am afraid to speculate.
The playoffs affect these things. Remember, Ference only got a game for boarding in 2013. Doughty only got a game for his bad hit the other day. The league doesn’t like suspending in the playoffs, which could be part of the calculation that Kadri did when making that hit. In the regular season he would’ve had a lengthy time to reflect, but in the playoffs he might not.
I certainly hope that DoPS drops that guideline.
I think Doughty doesn’t have much, if any, prior suspensions like Kadri. But, then again, Backes didn’t have any history as well. (still bitter)
Yep, me too.
That Backes suspension was so stupid.
I don’t think he made any calculation. He makes plays like that all the time. He’s Marchand-lite, basically (light on the talent, heavy on the cheap).
^that’s a great analogy!^
Today, I’m making Nilla wafers from scratch. Very excited.
I’m making brownies!!!!
Two batches – unleaded and high test!
Is bourbon involved? Bourbon pairs very well with brownies, especially if you add some ground espresso. That’s my chocolate trick.
Bourbon! YES!!!!!! Bourbon in both batches, special butter only in the high test. It’s mid grade, really. The last batch of high test made people catatonic!
(feeling really dumb, trying not to show it)
gotcha
I am excited for you!
So, Kadri is saying that he was already committed to the hit and that Wingels was committed to the fall. Does he know there’s video showing otherwise? I have watched this clip so much and his argument is not there.
Kadri is a liar.
That hit was really really bad. It’s the sort of thing that maximizes the likelihood of long term injury. And inexcusable.
Defenseless player, targeting the head, injury, reaction to events on the ice, suspension history.
The elements are there for a significant suspension.
Kadri should be committed – he’s nuts!
My tablet wants to autocorrect Kadri to Marti!
IMO Kadri had more than enough time to stop. It’s not like he skates as badly as Terry O’Reilly.
He was skating straight toward him and turned only because I don’t think he wanted to hit him with his dick. Plus, hitting someone with your dick does much less damage than a hip check to the head against the boards.
Sorry, I guess I’m feeling dicktastic today.
Depends on the size of the dick!!!
In this case, the dick was the size of Nazem Kadri*.
Was he also “already committed” to leaving his feet and flying through the air at Wingels?
He actually was facing the situation, saw Tommy falling , and then decided to launch into a hit.
