Morning Free Association: Draft Day

Oh, hey, the 2018 NHL Entry Draft is tonight and tomorrow in Dallas. At this time, the Bruins do not have a first-round pick, so they won’t be making any selections tonight. Rumor is that they will have a pick tonight, but how?

Well, they could make a deal with old pal, former GM Peter Chiarelli, who is possibly looking to deal the 10th overall selection for a solid defenseman. Could Adam McQuaid be packaged up with something else to make this happen? Maybe, maybe not.

Currently, the Bruins hold all their picks on the second day, Saturday. Their picks are as follows:

  • 2nd round, 57th overall
  • 3rd round, 77th overall (originally from Florida for Frank Vatrano)
  • 4th round, 119th overall
  • 6th round, 181st overall (originally Winnipeg from Drew Stafford trade)
  • 7th round, 212th overall
  • We’ll have to see what magic the Sweenius has up his sleeves to get into that first round.

Morning all. To all the kids drafted today, remember that you are “excited to be a part” of your new team. You are not “excited to be apart” of your new team.

    Hello folks,

Draft day! Yeah, it’s nice that hockey things are happening but I can’t help feeling it’s a bit more hype than substance. Someone going in the first round isn’t necessary a superstar. Someone going in the sixth round just might be. You never know (or at least not for a few years).

Home working day for me and I’ve just come outside for a coffee break. Enjoying the sounds around. There’s a very boisterous sparrow on the fence; about ten bees are hard at work in our lavender patch, and there are some workmen on a roof a couple of doors away who have just dropped something and broken it. It’s actually more relaxing that that sounds!

Weekend plans: Sunday is Little Bear’s birthday party. That will not be relaxing!

Spent some quality time on my porch last night. I should just set a tent up out there!

    Sorry Zach smile

But at least he did actually play i the NHL, unlike five of his fellow first-round picks that year!

Small sample size, I know, but when you consider what the trade value of a first is, then think that in that year it was a 17% chance that it wasn’t even going to get you an NHL player.

Someone going in the first round isn’t necessary a superstar.

For example, Hugh Jesseman, 12th overall in 2003
, finally debuted in10-11 season with the Panthers
and hung around for all of 2 games

Way to hurt Jordan Caron’s feelings!

To be fair, anyone after Bergeron would be disappointing!

    Hey Pals!
I’m Sweenius I trust!!! I don’t watch the draft. You can read that in the Sunday papers. I’m always interested to see where prospects with southern New England connections to in the draft. Especially kids I have reffed. Third round for them this year.
Some clean up, then heading north to lost horizons! This morning Jo said “we’re going home tonight.” I feel like that, too – even if it’s a lil diamond in the rough ( like coal stage ).
    Go Bruins, Donny magic tonight!!!!!

Have a good trip, hope the weather is kind. Are you doing more renovations or do you have the place how you want it now?
