This summer, Bearly on Topic is spending some time away from discussing hockey and focusing on the amazingly inspirational instagram of Bruins captain Zdeno Chara. He’s only been posting since January and has only 67 posts so far, however, each and every one is chock full of wisdom, insight, or a glimpse of his drive and work ethic.
Some posts have multiple pictures while others have a video and related photos. Some have a paragraph explaining his thought, some are much shorter allowing the viewer to reflect upon the meaning of the post. Every one is thoughtful and a piece of a fabric that makes the man.
His latest entry is about overcoming what others think you should do while embracing and living your dreams. It’s also one of his more visually stimulating and appealing training videos, in that the filter makes it look like animation.
While Chara is shown lifting various weights to work different muscle groups, Chara’s words pop up on the screen.
“As a boy, I had a dream to play hockey.
Not many believed I could.
You should play basketball.
You are too tall and not strong enough.
Don’t give up your dreams.
Never ever give up your dreams.”
After 20 years in the NHL, Zdeno Chara has shown that he’s more than strong enough.
May you play for as long as you want, big guy. Too many more years!
