Yes, Rick “Nifty” Middleton’s number 16 will be retired this season. For those who might want to be at the game, it’s happening on November 29th, the week after Thanksgiving.

“It was a great honor to call Rick today and let him know that he will join the group of retired numbers in the TD Garden rafters,” said Bruins President Cam Neely. “As a player and a person Rick embodies what it means to be a Bruin, and we are excited to celebrate his career with his family, friends and our fans on November 29th.”

Hockey fans rejoiced everywhere:

Hey Pals!
I loved watching Rick Middleton play hockey! Nifty was a great nickname as he was slicker than snot on a doorknob. And classy. The man was pure class. 999 points ought to be enough, eh?
Easy double last night. Although, things were starting to get heated in the second game. No “D” league. Actually had some decent hockey. The legs felt pretty good (,my witch doctor spent a lil extra time on them this week. I had my lucky talisman, as well.
Hoping the weather lets us get some disc golf in this afternoon.

Oh! Harry really fleeced the Rags on that deal. Ken Hodge (born in Birmingham, UK) had one good season for the Rangers, (after a glorious term in Beantown) then 18 less than productive games the followig campaign. Nifty? 12 seasons with the Bs, 400 goals, and a lifetime of memories.

I didn’t remember that we’d gotten him for Hodge. It seemed like Hodge was involved in every play back in the TV38 days.
