Morning Free Association: The End of Summer

With players returning to Boston in time for training camp next week, it’s inevitable that the players will see the press again. One young player, a rising star if he isn’t a bona fide one yet, greeted the press in great fashion.

“I have not missed you at all.” He’s kidding, of course.

David had the best summer. He vacationed in Spain with friends. He won an award for being the best hockey player from the Czech Republic. He played in the Summer Classic with other NHL players including his bestie, William Nylander in Oslo. Spent a good chunk of time in Prague with family. I’m pretty sure he spent some time with some dogs. So its no wonder that he wouldn’t miss the spotlight that the press brings.

The press certainly missed you, Pasta, especially Amalie Benjamin.

Hi Pals!
Single game last night…. what a shit show! People acting like idiots. Jo nearly got writer’s cramp, jotting down the penalties!
Relief from the heat this evening, can’t wait. Maybe I can get some baking done.
Coffee!!

If I was Jo (though nobody can be Jo, we can only hope to be as awesome as she is) I would have just written “being a dipshit” for all the penalties.

Sometimes “being a dipshit” IS the penalty! And Jo knows to write it down just the way we assess it, ie “6 White, minor for being a dipshot”. It’s important to say it Wes McCauley style. If the perpetrator has family in attendance, you want them to understand just how big an idiot their loved one is.

Early-season over-excitement or was it summer league late-season jadedness?

Everyday over excitement! Sometimes it’s the phase of the moon, sometimes it’s the alcohol that the player fueled up with before the game.
