News broke yesterday that longtime Bruins defenseman, and guaranteed producer of a delay of game penalty, Adam McQuaid was traded to the New York Rangers for another former Bruins defenseman, Steve Kampfer, and a 2019 4th-round draft picks and a conditional 2019 7th-round draft pick. With this transaction, the team gained $2.1 by shedding McQuaid’s contract.

It’s clear he’ll be missed by teammates and the press.

Somebody please hold Marchy.

The unfortunate part of this business is that players don’t get to stay and play with their friends through their whole career. McQuaid was drafted by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2005 draft but never played a game for them before being traded to the Bruins. He debuted in Providence in 2007 and made his first appearance with the Boston Bruins in the 2009-2010 season.

Other Bruins players started their 15 hour flight to China yesterday. Every player handles this differently and Marchy has plans.

In another part of the rink, it looks like Steve Yzerman is stepping down from his GM position to become an advisor for the Tampa Bay Lightning. It turns it he’s doing it for family reasons.

“This new position will allow me to spend more time with my wife and three daughters who live and attend college in cities in the northern United States. At the direction of (owner) Jeff Vinik, this organization has been committed to excellence and it will remain so under Julien’s guidance.”

This season is the last one in which he is under contract to the Lightning. It’s been rumored that he would return to the Detroit Red Wings in the front office, he could do so after this season. The only problem is that Ken Holland was extended through the end of the 2019-2020 season.

Morning, pals!

I will miss McQuaid but I think it’s a great move for the Bruins and a good move for him to get more playing time while still being not too terribly far from his family, etc. I was really scared they’d do something stupid like trade Grizz.

That’s been my frustration with the situation too. They had McQuaid & K Miller fulfilling the same role, and I was always worried they would dump a younger player with more upside potential rather than deal with the existing overlap.
Kampher is an unexciting return, but the picks are pretty nice.

I missed the seventh all together, thought it was just a fourth. You have brought more sunshine into my life!
