Of course, the team is split in two right now with half of it training and playing in China, the challenge will be in getting the team in synch on two different continents and when they unite. Since head coach Bruce Cassidy can’t be in two places at once, he’ll have to rely on his assistant Joe Sacco and his judgment.

“They’ll have two complete days off when they do come back,” said Sweeney. “…There’s no question that you feel a bit divided in that you’re trying to run parallel camps in separate parts of the world. The coaches have done a great job in trying to simulate what’s going to happen there versus what’s going to happen here. We will be in lockstep in that regard.”

One situation that will take some navigating is evaluating players in this time frame to fill the few open roster spots.

“I can’t see half the players,” said Cassidy. “We tried to break it up so that some of the competitive spots, those kids would be going to China, but that’s not the case with every player. Some of them that are left behind. We’ll have to rely on Joe [Sacco].”

By the way, if you want to see the first game in Shenzhen, NHL Network is televising it at 2:30am on Saturday. Don’t have NHL Network? You can listen to the broadcast on 98.5 The Sports Hub (stream it as well) at the same time, with Andy Brickley filling in for Bob Beers.

Hey hockey pals!

I renewed our head to head and roto leagues. If you haven’t tried it, you should! If you have, you should! If you don’t like it… you should!

I think we could use a few more people for roto, which is a different take on fantasy, that I absolutely love. Head to head is fun, too, but roto is my cup of tea.
