Morning Free Association: Seeing Stars

Before the game, I confidently predicted that the Bruins would win this game. I also believed the hype that Tyler Seguin would factor into the scoresheet. Was I right? Partly.

Tuukka Rask and Anton Khudobin started in net for their respective teams. Before the game, they chatted a little bit because that’s what you do with your good buddies.

True to fashion, Tuukka let in a bad goal to start the game, and a short handed one at that by Radek Faksa.

Not to worry though, David Pastrnak tied it up on a power play during that same power play in which Tuukka let in the bad goal.

In the second period, the only times it seemed they had any pressure in Dallas’ zone was when they either had the Stone Hands Crew (fourth line), a guy playing only his third game of the season (Krug), or the top line getting tightly handled. NO GOAL made an appearance again when the ref blew the whistle early, just as Anders Bjork shoved the puck into the net behind Khudobin.

A lot of back and forth, no-scoring stuff happened. Deep into the third period, Torey Krug was called for boarding when he and Gemel Smith were competing for the puck and Smith lost an edge into the boards. Luckily, the Bruins penalty kill is good. No one would ever score again in regulation.

In the extra period, the Dallas Stars became morons. At 3:16, after some sort of confusion, the Stars had too many men on the ice. Of course, it being a period of 3-on-3 play, the Stars couldn’t go down to two players on the ice, so the Bruins got to add one. Then, when defenseman Esa Lindell cross-checked Brad Marchand, the B’s had a 5-on-3 opportunity. Would they capitalize on this opportunity? Of course they would!

Brad gets the game winner and puts the Stars to bed.

Ha – It wouldn’t work this morning!

Dobby must’ve nearly got an assist credit on that first goal. That would’ve impressed Bruins Twitter …

Ridiculous puck luck again – scoring is surely going to come soon.

Hope you’ve all been to vote!

I’ve been getting robo-texts, both for candidates and ballot questions. I voted for everyone/everything the baby-handed orange idiot would hate.

I love how they announced it today. “Quick while everyone is distracted with election stuff!”

I’d say Ottawa, except that would require Melnyk to spend actual money on something.

That would generate interest in the team. Not gonna happen, it’s counterproductive to his goals.

One the one hand, everyone complains about their boss and the Uber driver is an uber douchecanoe for recording this and making it public.

On the other hand, bahahahaha what a fucking dumpster fire.

So the only Cup winning coach still coaching the team which they won it with is Sullivan in Pittsburgh.

EDIT. Randy Carlyle is coach the Ducks again. He won it with them in 2007.

Morning, hockey pals!

  • The first line is still carrying the entire offense. MOVE PASTA TO LINE TWO.
  • I miss Charlie McAvoy.
  • John Moore has been very good, no?
  • Tuukka was good last night…. after he let in the stupidest goal ever

What the devil is wrong with McAvoy? The team is so weird about it. Does he have an alien chest-burster or something?

It would be pretty funny if the Stars had to play with one guy on the ice.

A penalty in overtime would be a death sentence!

It would be so hilarious. Especially if the losing team just left the arena with the player still in the penalty box.

Just squeeze yourself into the crease next to the goaltender and hope for the best.

Proposal for a new rule: In OT, if the goalie commits a penalty, he has to go sit in the box himself, rather than having someone else serve it for him. The backup goalie can come in, but a team can’t have 2 goalies on the ice at the same time – so they’ll either have to wait for a stoppage to switch back or take the risk of leaving the goal undefended while the backup skates off before the starter can skate on.

Yeah, they play a couple of games at a time – similar to an NHL cross-country road trip. I think they play one at the local team’s home stadium and one at a different stadium as an ‘away’ game.

Yeah, the Rays really seem to have their number. I actually saw a preseason game between these two since it was like 5 miles away. The Rays fired in a flurry of goals early on, including a PP, then played rope-a-dope for the next two periods.

One, am I the only one who thinks dueling women’s leagues is ridiculous for a sport who can’t even get fans for it’s biggest, most talented league in the world?
Two, when you’re barely holding your league together, doesn’t flying to China for games seem a bit… expensive and pointless?
