Last night in Montreal, the Bruins, losers of their past two games, took on the Montreal Canadiens, the team that recently leapfrogged them in the standings. And it was a glorious day to hate the Habs!

This was the third game in the four-game season series between these two storied rivals with the visiting team winning each of those games. So let’s see what the Bruins did in their shutout win.

Early in the first, Joakim Nordstrom scored his fifth of the year after undergoing an eleven game drought.

In the second period, the stars aligned and COLBY CAVÉ SCORED HIS FIRST NHL GOAL!

He’s only played in 16 NHL games so that’s not too shabby.

Then the third period was when the B’s sealed the deal with two goals from that top line.

Here are some things to consider:

  • The Habs are only where they are in the standings because Florida has decided to suck this season
  • The Bruins are the walking wounded, with a couple of players wearing full on face masks after a receiving a broken nose (Kuraly) and a puck to the face (Kampfer). Read the thread for more shocking facial injuries this season.
  • Patrice Bergeron could be back by this weekend
  • Next up, a home game against the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday.

That game was like eating a sundae.

“We’re down 2-0, let’s get our motor going and start the 3rd period off right.”

30 seconds in, line change before the puck reaches the red line, turnover at the blue line, two guys wipe each other out in front of the net, Price is flopping like a fish…nom nom nom nom

The hot fudge and cherry sequence:

I’m getting a pellet stove installed next month because I wanted some heat that I could leave unattended for 24 hrs in a row. It’s not gonna have the brutal efficiency of the giant wood stove, but I’m excited to see what it will do.

Shut them out in their own building and leapfrog them in the standings at the same time? Pretty glorious!

Early days I know but as things stand WC1 = Washington in first round and WC2 = Tampa in first round, right?

I’d say that makes overtaking Toronto a priority!

Man, that “goals for” number is brutal

Yeah, that puts them at a depressing ~23rd in the league. On the plus side, the GA of 88 puts them 2nd or 3rd defensively.

If you can’t score ’em, save ’em!

Yeah, it would be nice to score more, but it’s the +6 that’s the important bit.

Having Bergy out (for, how long now? seems like about 3yrs) has hurt given how he was scoring and setting them up earlier in the season.
