Morning Free Association: Instant Winter Classic

Welcome to 2019, a year in which the Bruins are perfect! After having taken on the Chicago Blackhawks at Notre Dame Stadium and winning 4-2, the Bruins are now 2-1 in Winter Classics!

It was looking dicey for a while when the Bruins failed to score first and Tuukka was having problems with his five hole. In fact, the Bruins only seemed to be able to get on the board with the man advantage. Of course, on of those times, it was Patrice Bergeron doing it all by himself on both ends of the ice. First he prevented Brandon Saad from getting a short handed goal then he trucked down the ice to be in the right place at the right time to get the power play goal.

In the third, Sean Kuraly came up big again with the game winner on a juicy rebound.

He has to keep the fishbowl and wear it forever since he has all the game winning goals (in the past two games). Side note: his nose looks much better in the week or so that it’s been allowed to heal.

Brad Marchand sat out the previous game with an UBI, doing everything he could possibly do to be able to play in this game. He capped off the game with a gorgeous empty netter after the B’s were pinned in their own zone for a couple of minutes late in the game. I wish there were footage of it but videos of empty net goals are instantly taken away and fed to the dogs of the Hockey Gods or something like that.

By the way, if you wondering why the B’s dressed the way they did yesterday:

Oh and this Winter Classic was worth it for that Bergeron shift alone. Wow.

But yeah, apart from starving everyone, it was a very well done Winter Classic. It might also have been the best-played outdoor game I’ve seen. The ice was great – passes were crisp, lots of shots, lots of great scoring chances. Both teams played well.

The fans were great, too – friendly and funny on both sides. I loved hearing the “woo!” in the stadium!

Hey all. Very enjoyable game. Frustrating at times but they’re heading the right way. And those two points jumped them from outside the wildcards to 3rd in the division. It’s ridiculously tight!

My dad has shown Little Bear how to do a 2×2 Rubiks cube, which she has become obsessed with. Not sure how long it’ll last, but i heartily approve!

Sure, it starts off innocent enough – 2×2 cube, then a 3^3 cube, then 7^3 cube, then they start taking the Spice so they can do the 13x 4-Dimensional cube
and before you know it, they’ve joined the Spacers Guild and start gallivanting around the universe and are threatening to put people in pain amplifiers

Hmmm, I hadn’t considered that. Maybe she’s better off being glued to YouTube after all!

Morning all. Winter Classic was a great start to the new year! Still swooning over that Bergeron shift. Such perfection. And I love the Peaky Blinders attire. I especially love it because after hearing about the clown shows over in Tootsie Land and Dallas, it’s nice to see the Bruins still be a tight bunch despite the up and down season.

I figured it was just in keeping with the 30s uniforms. Love it either way. The black n white photo they did is outstanding.

Oh for sure it was keeping with theme but I also thought it was cool it showed they are a team.

Those style of hats have been trending in greater Boston this season (I have two of them myself – they are compact for driving and I can fold ’em up and put em in my coat pocket). So it really made a lot of sense on multiple levels. Maybe I’ll need to start wearing a tweed vest to work.

I’d love to wear a fedora but I use headphones lot when I’m out so the ol’ flat cap is much more practical. Plus, as you say, when not in use it goes nicely in the coat pocket!

A pretty good game.
I thought the Bruin should have been able to be a little more dominant, since the Chi roster is a little thin beyond Kane & Toews but then one could say the same about the B’s.

That Tuukka save vs the Kane breakaway was pretty sweet, and gets lost in the noise of Bergyness. And that empty netter where everybody trips everybody else was a thing of beauty.

That was a great save. Tuukka definitely gets my vote for player of the game. Made some key saves like that one to keep them in the game. (I sound like generic hockey analyst there.)

Agreed. Maybe that’ll shut up the idiots who say he can’t deliver in big games (doubt it tho).

At least I didn’t get any whining Tuukka texts from SatanMother!
