Morning Free Association: Bears Beat Sharks

If you stayed up for that game last night in San Jose, you were appalled, thrilled, ecstatic, elated, disappointed, worried, joyous, on edge, annoyed, anticipated something in the making for over five seasons, amazed, and victorious. Yep, I think that expresses the whole 63:59 including the appearance of NO GOAL.

First Period:

The Bruins managed to net three goals (it should have been four), two by defensemen and the other by the new guy!

First, what should have been by Charlie McAvoy:

Then this one that definitely was by Krug:

Then a big booming one from the big guy:

And the new guy, Karson Kuhlman, gets his first NHL goal:

Of course, Joe Thornton had to ruin things by scoring so by the end of the period, the Bruins were only leading 3-1. It should’ve been 4-1.

Second Period:

Sharks draw first blood in this period, with Joe Pavelski’s 32nd of the season. Then, it was time for some magic from Jake DeBrusk, who continued his goal scoring streak to four games.

And then, Jumbo Joe struck again.

Then, the shit hit the fan. Logan Couture goes for a breakaway and Brad Marchand hooks him. Couture manages to get the shot off but it clearly fails to cross the line, and Krug takes it out of the crease. The ref seemed to indicate that it was a goal, then rolled it back to be a penalty shot, on which Couture scored, tying up the game. Oh, and it was short-handed.

Third Period:

After almost 14 minutes of play in the third, Joe Thornton completed his hat trick.

The watch for his promised special celebration for four goals was on:

Then the improbable happened! The Mayor of Walpole eclipsed his previous record for goals in a season by just working hard in the crease to get the biscuit in the basket.

Overtime, Extra Time:

Tuukka makes another Tim Thomas breakdance save.

A few seconds later Matt Grzelcyk scrapes the puck off the line and out 200 ft.

With just over a minute left, Charlie McAvoy ended it, from Krejci and DeBrusk.

What a nail biter!

The Bruins play one more late game this week on Wednesday against the Vegas Golden Knights.

That game was wild last night.

I wasn’t too bent out of shape for the no-goal, because it wasn’t definitive from the views available on NESN in real-time. The Wagner goal – that was a very fortuitous bounce for the Bruins – in multiple senses of the word. Sharks fans must be super pissed off about that.

I’m not in such great shape today. Our plow guy didn’t show up yesterday, so I ended up digging out way too much now by hand.

Kuhl, man! Who he? Even the announcer called him Denton Heineken!

(Thanks for that, autocorrect. You know what I mean…)

Going night skiing in a bit. Never done it before. Should be fun.

Hey B’s fans!!!!!
Got home just AFTER the Wagner goal and saw the end…. fabulous end!!! Watched a bit of the replay from 2:45 (while nodding in and out). Just watched the last 10 minutes on NESN2….. I will be watching mo’ replay at 3……. an instant classic!!!!!
This team can be so much fun to watch. It seemed like they were struggling not that long ago (buyers or sellers?). Okay, I’m still in ” stand pat ” mode…. The future is too bright to give up much…. AHL prospects, okay….. Boston roster….. Noooooo!!!!! I’m willing to let Backes go… maybe the Blues want him back for their playoff push…. but no kids on the market, please (except the afore mentioned AHL guys). Zboril and Senyshin I’ll consider (since I have so much influence on this decision)…..
Ohhhhhh!!! Tuukka breaking out the windmill pad stack in O/T!!!!!! Dude!!!!! He’s inserted that in his arsenal!! (as opposed to inserting that in his arse!)
Thorty tried to make the Bs regret trading him, but losing 6-5 is de rigueur for Jumbo Joe so forgetaboutit!!!!
Wagner – stickin’ it to two teams that let him go….. I love it!!!!!
Another double tonight!!!!! Show me the money!!!!

It’ll be interesting to see what Donny does. We’ve got defence, we’ve got goal tending and now we’ve got depth scoring, apparently! What else do we need??
