Morning Free Association: Grzelcyk Update and More

After having an initial set of x-rays that were negative for broken bones, Matt Grzelcyk was sent home to Boston for more testing. Officially he has an upper body injury and has been ruled out for tonights game.

Thankfully, we have another d-man, Steven Kampfer, who can slot in the meantime.

The Bruins also made another transaction yesterday, sending Lee Stempniak back down to Providence. Stempniak joined the Boston Bruins for the past two games and was unimpressive in those games, averaging just under 8 minutes a night with no shots on goal and 2 hits. That’s definitely not enough to justify keeping him up with the team, never mind playing on David Krejci’s wing.

Tonight, the Bruins take on the Blue Jackets in Columbus. It should be a fun game and a great start to that next win streak.

Morning all. A little less ragey today so that’s good.

Can we send Backes down too?

I have been trying to find positives in his game, but I can’t find much. He’s good at screening the goalie when we have an extra attacker, I suppose.

Backes has been slow: slow to skate, slow to shoot the puck, and slow to pass. He is easy to defend. Additionally, he has had a hard time catching passes.

It does seem like he’s become Lucic 2.0.

At least Backes can blame advancing years. Lucic’s dropoff was bizarre.

Along the same lines, what’s Beleskey up to these days?

Yeah, so weird how Lucic went from good player to not good that quick.

Google tells me Beleskey is playing in the AHL. Only played four games in the NHL this season.

You could’ve given me the stock answer in our office to pretty much any question: “Is the internet not working over there?!” lol lol

I was hoping Backes would be dealt at the deadline…. the Bruins situation is different now… Backes is a veteran and won’t be jittery at playoff time…. He’ll be just as able to not catch those passes!!! I think he can bring grit, though a lil mo time in the weight room might be in order, if he wants that role.. If not, is Rinaldo still under contract?

Hey All!!I
Good news on Grizz. I like Kampfer, good fill in for Grizz.
I was hopeful Stemper could get it done…. he was somewhat underwhelming. Keep the kids in the line up!!!!!
Bagel Bruin had me laughing yesterday with beer league problems, as well as the FHL’s….. I’ve been offered FHL give before…. reffing, maybe (although this wasn’t the first official assaulted in their league), lining – no way… the linesman do some heavy lifting for their $100 a game… most travel a bit, as well.
As for beer league…. most players want to play with their friends – even if the games are lopsided one way or t’other. It’s all about the camaraderie!!! They tend to spell it beer, but it’s camaraderie….honest.

I’ve worked for Geno Binda before… That guy would send his mom to ref a prison game, so the fact that he’s bailing on the league tells you something (no commissioner, owners run league, stay away!).

DAMN SON.

I know in the past year, FHL refs have had sticks, water bottles and gloves thrown at them by team officials.

Amen on the camaraderie! There is a seasonal league a little closer to me, but I always pick my dysfunctional league in Greensboro. Those are my guys.

Although this might be the season they finally have to make changes. There have been 6 shutouts already. we’re three games into the season. The best teams got out and found new, better players. Us lowly teams have been the same for awhile now.

I’ve played on both ends of that spectrum… teams that won and teams that never won…. as long as I was lucky enough to be with friends, I was happy!!!
