On the eve of St. Patrick’s Day, the Garden was filled twice with fans watching their winter sports teams play in both matinee and evening games. The Bruins played the later game on that day with the ice being a little bit shitty. But what better way to play a hockey game with playoff implications on the line!
As I’m sure you already knew, the Bruins imported MMA fighter and professional St. Patrick’s Day Parade Grand Marshal, Connor McGregor, to inspire the boys.

McGregor asked who were the enforcers on the team, then announced they all were. This may have given the boys a little more pep in their step and a bigger bite in their check. I love you Seth Jones but you can’t quite compete with the Noeldozer.

Patrice Bergeron opened up the scoring early in the first after Columbus’ Lukas Sedlak was called for interference after tripping up Steven Kampfer at the boards behind goal. The goal was the 27th this year for Bergy and his 800th career point.

Because of course Patrice Bergeron-Cleary would score at the game celebrating St. Patrick's Day. Stands to reason.

The Blue Jackets would tie it up before the end of the period when Matt Duchene scored his 30th of the season.
Then, two whole periods of back-and-forth and no scoring happened leading to overtime.
You love him and he may be the most consistent and best player we have right now – Brad Marchand – ended the game with a gorgeous goal and a celly that was an homage to the MMA fighter of the evening. Brad was feeling it having eclipsed his previous season high in points with Bergy’s goal and adding on to it.

The assist by Brad Marchand on Patrice Bergeron's first-period goal was his 86th point of the season. That's a new career high after 85 each of the past two seasons.

The Bruins win along with the Maple Leafs loss to the Senator (6-2), ensured that the Bruins have a 4-point buffer keeping them second in the Atlantic.
This team is fun, let’s keep it going, boys!
Edit: Brad wishes you and yours a Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
Happy St. Pattys Day!

I don’t despise that t(h)urd line.
Agreed. I think Heinen will do well on the third line. Not meant as a slight on him – I think it’ll be better for his development as he’s seemed in over his head on the top line.
I am still intrigued to see what the lines will look like when everyone comes back. Good problems to have!
My guess is that it’ll look like:
Marchand – Bergeron – Pastrnak
DeBrusk – Krejci – Johansson
Heinen – Coyle – Wagner
Nordstrom – Acciari – Kuraly
Chara – McAvoy
Krug – Carlo
Moore – Grzelcyk
Rask
Halak
I have my doubts as to whether they’ll sit Backes even if he is competing with Nordstrom for least effective forward.
I think if Butch goes with your exact combos, he plays Kuraly on the left & Nordstrom on the right. He seems more comfortable with Nordy swapping sides than Kuraly.
Woo!

Great news. I only saw highlights of the CBJ match but Debrusk looked pretty close to his best form.
He did everything but score on Saturday.
Been reading Steve Dangle’s book lately. Wow that guy worked his ass off. It’s also made me realize that a lot of the hockey content I read and watch is done by unpaid interns.
I need to read that!
It’s a fun one! Definitely gives you an appreciation for what it takes to make it in the sports media industry. I’ve come to realize that a lot of the sports media I read and watch is made by unpaid interns.
Another good read is The Down Goes Brown History of the NHL. Really funny stuff.
From Down Goes Brown today:
“Not ranked: Toronto St. Pats – They weren’t very good this weekend. Which is bad news, since it’s the only weekend they get before they turn back into the Maple Leafs. who are also not very good lately. Does anyone know what the Arenas are up to these days?”
Hi all,
I went to Ireland for St Pat’s day once. Do you know what they do there to celebrate it? Absolutely nothing! The shops were all shut. We went to a pub and were the only ones there. There was a church service tho. Maybe we went to the wrong town, I dunno.
Hahaha! Yeah, St. Patrick’s Day is more of an excuse for us Americans to get ass faced drunk.
Happy St. Hungover’s day everybody!
Over the weekend I was in a video shoot for a local band’s music video. I was somehow cast as the male lead. I’ve been in a few music videos before as just a face in the crowd, but this was the first time the camera was on me the entire time.
Even though it was a music video, there was one very small and minor kiss and snuggle scene. I’m not an actor and when it comes to public displays of affection, I don’t like them. Ask my ex’s. We never even held hands in public. The first 5259028590294 takes were so bad and awkward, but then I became numb to the situation.
So like, I am totally a professional actor now.
That’s amazing! Are this band very successful?
This band has been around for a long time, and everyone in the band is old. I think this was an effort to feel young again. I was brought in because I am younger than 55.
The director they used is also a local guy who specializes in short films and documentaries. He’s been branching out and has done a few music videos for the old guardians of the music scene.
The director did give me his card and ask me to audition for an upcoming role in an indie short he’s working on. He wants me to audition for the husband role of a husband and wife prostitution duo.
Ha! Wow, that sounds … interesting!
I really liked that win because I watched the game on TV with my parents and my bro. It was nice.
Morning all. Marchand wins everything.
It didn’t occur to me at the time that the Marchand celly was a McGregorism, but it really worked.
And Marchy is really the perfect one to do it.
