This is going to be short but not sweet. Your Boston Bruins sucked this weekend. They showed nary a sign of life on Saturday against the Panthers and even less through the first and part of the second period against the lowly Red Wings on Sunday. I know they scored 3 goals in the second, but by that time we had turned it off to instead watch American Gods, which was a better use of our time.
I know what you’re thinking. Yes, they played back-to-back and travelled and that’s why they played poorly on Sunday. That doesn’t excuse Saturday, though. You would think that after announcing the fans’ pick for The Seventh Player Award, Chris “The Mayor” Wagner, he who is from Walpole, that the B’s could muster something. His longtime friend, Noel Acciari scored the only goal in a 4-1 loss.
We even had the team inch closer to fully manned with the third line pairing of Matt Grzelcyk and Kevan Miller returning to action on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. Still, the team sucked.
If we can point to one positive thing that could happen in the few remaining games it’s this: if Brad Marchand scores two more goals and no more assists, he will have a stat line of 37G, 63A, 100 points, which is awesome.
The Bruins have three games left: at Columbus on Tuesday, at Minnesota on Thursday, and at home against Tampa Bay on Saturday. They haven’t locked up second place in the division yet with a game in hand on Toronto, They need all the points they can get. This lost weekend was poorly timed.
Get it together, boys!
