Morning Free Association: Killer B’s

I wasn’t going to watch this game. It seemed to have “trap game” written all over it. The Columbus Blue Jackets were riding a five-game win streak and the Bruins were losers of two. Columbus was in desperation mode, in need of winning each of their last three games to remain in the playoff structure while fending off the Habs and the Canes.

The Bruins didn’t come out flat-footed! They seemed like they wanted to play a game! It was exciting!

Jake Debrusk scored two goals in a game that saw the Bruins reach QUOTA or more for the ninth time this season. DeBrusk’s 26th and 27th goals happened in the first and second periods.

His first goal opened up the scoring early for the Bruins. Karson Kuhlman batted the puck up toward the net front and Jake made the extra efforts to send it home.

Later in the first period, Marcus Johansson scored his first as a Bruin on a wide open net to extend the lead to 2-0.

Then things got fun! Brad Marchand went into the game with a stat line of 35-63-98. He only needed 2 points to make that 37-63-100.

Marchy indeed became the latest Bruins player with 100 points in a season, the first since Jumbo Joe in the early aughts. First, Brad scored himself another goal for point 99.

Later to start off the third period, he assisted on David Pastrnak’s 37th goal of the year. Of course, he collected the puck for his 100th point.

This team! That line!

Of course, it wasn’t all fun and games and shutouts. The Blue Jackets managed to score 2 goals on the power play, but who cares about that other than the B’s need to be more disciplined in their play. Or maybe the refs should have called more of the penalties they missed against the Blue Jackets. Either or.

Finally, Karson Kuhlman added to his career high NHL goals with his 3rd in the middle of the third.

All in all it was a good effort by the B’s. After the Leafs dropped to the Canes, the Bruins clinched the second seed in the Atlantic.

Next up, the Mild in Minnesota.

I’m still recovering from my 5 games in three days. How do refs do it?

Awesome win last night! If I were the Bruins, I would rest Carlo until 72 seconds before the opening faceoff against the Leafs.

Although refs get no line changes, the skating is different…. It still takes a toll. 28 games in 4 days is my craziest stretch ever…. it included a 12 game Saturday that won’t be forgotten for awhile….. my partner was doing his best Curt Schilling

Spoiler
bloody sock!
after day two!

We had a plan where GH would give him the flu to keep him out of the lineup for the last few games. GIVE HIM THE FLU, VA!

Torey Krug now has 47 assists.
Can he get to 47 + 25 = 72? (no, he cannot)
Is 72 even an interesting number? (no, it isn’t)

The 37 + 63 = 100 would have been cool…
