Morning Free Association: Playoff Quota is Best Quota

That game last night was a real nail biter at times. The Bruins didn’t want to return to Boston on Friday down 3-1 in the series. Luckily, they won’t have to.

The Bruins took an early lead in the first period thanks to a penalty drawn by Joakim Nordstrom. Charlie McAvoy shot in the closing seconds of the power play to make it 1-0, Bruins.

Brad Marchand was next up with a score 3:35 later just after he was slew footed at the Bruins blue line. He exacted his revenge to make it 2-0, Bruins.

Tuukka was making some great timely saves throughout the first since his team in front of him was getting pinned too often and seemed gassed. Unfortunately, he wasn’t perfect as Zach Hyman scored 11 seconds after the Bruins killed off a penalty.

Auston Matthews evened it up 1:07 into the second frame.

While David Pastrnak started off on the second line, he was reunited with the top line after 3 minutes had passed in the second. This was a good decision.

Auston Matthews caught Charlie McAvoy up high and was called for roughing. On the resulting power play, Pasta lit the lamp. Two never ending pasta goals within 1:35 of game time.

Tuukka made an impressive pad save on a shot by Connor Brown, preventing a rebound.

The Bruins played a lot in their own zone to start the third. Seriously, there are 2 other zones, 1 of which should be your playground. Anyway, with 6 minutes played in the third, Patrice Bergeron screened and Zdeno Chara shot. Bruins took a 5-2 lead.

Charlie McAvoy tangled with Zach Hyman who drew a hi-sticking penalty. It only took 10 seconds for Auston Matthews to score on the power play.

Then the Leafs pulled within 1, this time at even strength.

However, the Bruins hold on for the remaining 6 minutes, eventually putting a bow on it with Joakim Nordstrom’s empty net goal.

Bruins ties up the series 2-2 with a game in which they needed to score quota.

Next game is Friday night at 7pm at the Garden. Please Hockey Gods, allow us to have Sean Kuraly back in that game.

Hello all!

I didn’t see the game last night, but can we PLEASE stop giving up multiple-goal leads?

My mind is blown that Calgary is now on the brink of elimination, thanks to the Avs! What a strange playoff season this year.

It seems like all the underdogs are winning big. It makes me perversely glad that the Leafs & Bruins are so closely matched. Though I think the Avs can be a lot better than their record would suggest.

David Pastrnak on the buzz around Auston Matthews switching twigs:

“Is that what you guys talk about in Canada?”

And saw on Twitter that the Bruins are something like 18-1 in playoff games when Marchand scores. So, like, Marchand should score.

I would be the best sports reporter. “That thing they did that was good, they should do more of that,”

18 seconds. It was the most boring thing I’ve ever seen and I couldn’t stop screaming.

Silly Maple Leafs. 3 goal deficit comebacks are for the Boston Bruins!

It always fills me with dread when we’re three up against them in the third. Imagine the field day those fans would have.

But I suppose we could remind them that we did it first!

It’s a good sign that it happens so often! (that we’re three up in the third)

Hey hockey pals!

QUOTA!
– I would like to see them play better D
– tuukka was really good for like half the game, except that scary part where he was behind the goal line and passed to Tavares?!
– fourth line: woof
– a lot of not being able to get out of the zone

Question is, are they playing like shit and not as good as we think, or is it just that the Leafs are a really tough match for them?

fourth line: woof

Getting Kuraly back and reuniting the WAK-job line will be huge.

Question is, are they playing like shit and not as good as we think, or is it just that the Leafs are a really tough match for them?

The cop-out answer but I think the correct one – it’s a bit of both!

The Maple Leafs under-performed this season. On paper, this team is as good as, if not better, than the Bruins. There is no shame in having a tied series against them.

TBF, Nylander hold out, a couple injuries, they went through almost as much shit as the Bruins… AND played in the fish bowl that is Toronto…. with mild excitement over Tavares’ arrival.

Nylander is finally looking like he’s in midseason form…. since it’s midseason for him

Yes, the Leafs are a viable opponent…. Yes,the Bruins have a tendency to play like crap long enough to annoy, but not estrange their fans…
FOR FUCKS SAKE, Bruins, please do that voodoo, they you do, so well!!!!
