It had to happen sometime. The Bruins couldn’t simply keep up this momentum by winning four games in a row, not in the playoffs. The Bruins had to lose. Perhaps, though they didn’t need to lose by shooting themselves in their own foot.
Is anyone else bothered by their near-constant drop passes and the turnovers that result when a teammate simply isn’t there to get it? How about their not shooting the puck? Don’t even get me started on the anemic power play.
Yes, on Saturday night, the Bruins did this to themselves. A end of the the period scuffle with Brad Marchand cross-checking Alexandre Texier led to a power play goal by Artemi Panarin, who seems to be unguarded in most situations in the B’s defensive zone. Charlie Coyle did another dumb pass right to Seth Jones and Artemi Panarin scores his second of the night. A possibly phantom tripping call against Patrice Bergeron led to Matt Duchene scoring the game winner in double overtime. I could list more but I won’t.
The team defeated itself. Maybe having an extra day between games will do them some good.
