Morning Free Association: The Wait

With the Boston Bruins clinching the Eastern Conference with the sweep of the Carolina Hurricanes this past Thursday, they’re going to catch up on the rest that they didn’t get through the first three rounds of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. It will be a long rest.

After the St Louis Blues tied up their series with San Jose on Friday night, the NHL released the schedule for the Stanley Cup Final. The Bruins now know when they’ll play just not who they’ll play.

While some fans and reporters worry that this long period of time off will do make the team, especially Tuukka Rask, rusty, others are glad that the injured, like Zdeno Chara, will have time to recuperate and recover from what ails them. On Sunday, Cassidy addressed the media after practice to give some updates: David Krejci took a maintenance day, Chara and Steven Kampfer skated before practice but did not join, the team is exploring night time scrimmages at Warrior to stay fresh and focused in the meantime.

On Saturday, Don Sweeney gave updates on Kevan Miller’s and Chris Wagner’s availabilities for the Stanley Cup Final. They’re not good.

Only one week to go!

I have a few questions for everyone for the sake of conversation:

Which round has been your favorite Boston Bruins series this year? Which series has been your favorite non-Boston Bruins series?

Bruins Series: Leafs. Becoming as intense as a Habs series.
Non-Bruins: Columbus/Tampa because no one saw that sweep coming. And it kicked off Wild Card Chaos Squad.

I mean, people saw a sweep coming in that series. Just not the one that happened.

For me, I round 2 against the Columbus Blue Jackets was my favorite. It had two overtime games, and we started to see Tuukka go into brick wall mode. Period three of Game 5 was some of the best action I’ve ever seen too.

Non Bruins: I wish I could tell ya. I haven’t been able to watch much of the other series because of papers and finals.

It’s tough to pick between the Leafs series and Blue Jackets. Leafs has become a great rivalry even between the fanbases, but the Bs had a few off nights in that series. Hockey wise, I think jackets was better.

Non Bruins, probably Canes Washington. Think it would’ve been a much bigger story had the Jackets not stolen their thunder, but I loved that Carolina never led the series and was never in front in game seven until the OT goal, which also completed the clean sweep of division winners being knocked out.

Morning all. Time to discuss the important things: Banner Captains! Alternate Captain Planet? Nathan Horton? Dr. Recchi? Raptor Jesus? Cage Face?

Out of all of those, Captain Planet makes the most sense. He is not under contract with any other NHL team.

Hi folks!

Yeah it’s a long layoff. I can understand why people think that’s a bad thing – the Bs do seem to have been gaining momentum. But it’s been a long, gruelling slog and as long as they keep their focus I reckon the rest could be a good thing overall.

Those games times- will they all be 8pm Eastern or 8pm local to the home team? 8pm West coast time games I wouldn’t mind – early morning hockey!

Although the way the Sharks played last night it’s going to be the Blues…

Big game for GB today against France – the loser gets relegated!

GO GB!

I think the rest will not be much of an issue. If the Blues win tomorrow, they will have a crap load of time off too. I don’t see the big deal when the rest comes this late in the season.
