Morning Free Association: One Down, Three More to Go

The Bruins and Blues kicked off the 2019 Stanley Cup Final last night after each team had substantial rest. Understandably, it took a period of time before each team could shake off the rust. Well, at least one team looked like it could.

First of all, we should introduce the banner captains for Game 1. You know them, you love them, they’re members of the 2011 Stanley Cup Champions.

Yep, Andrew Ference, Dennis Seidenberg, Chris Kelly, Michael Ryder, Daniel Paille, Rich Peverley, and Shawn Thornton were all in the house to christen this final sprint for the Stanley Cup. Afterward, they retired to a suite (maybe it was our beloved suite) with members of the New England Patriots.

The Bruins spotted the Blues two goals in the first and second periods. After that, the B’s took over and scored four unanswered goals to tie, take the lead, and win the game.

The Bruins had all sorts of difficulty completing passes early but decided to dominate and impose their will defensively in the second, only allowing 3 shots on goal the whole period.

First up, Connor Clifton (aka Robert Downey Jr Jr) scored his second playoff goal to cut the Blues lead in half.

Charlie McAvoy scored a huge power play goal.

The fourth line came up big with First Star Sean Kuraly getting a goal and an assist and Joakim Nordstrom and Noel Acciari each getting a helper.

Finally, Brad Marchand sealed the deal with a hard fought empty netter.

On e notable thing about this series so far is that the Blues may look to manhandle our diminutive defensemen, as David Perron tried with Torey Krug. A clearly pissed and helmet-less Krug performed his best impression of a locomotive when he flew up the ice to forcefully separate Rob Thomas from the puck.

Tuukka Rask has a severely underrated sense of humor.

It was a good win. Hopefully, they’ll be even better on Wednesday night.

Guys, I don’t know what to do.

My ticket in our rotation would be for game 7. I feel like this isn’t going 7 and I need to get a ticket. 5 is probably the ideal game but what if it doesn’t go 5? Do we think it’s going 5? I don’t think we’re sweeping but am I losing it? I can’t buy a ticket for games 2 AND 5, so I don’t knooooow what to do!

RE Krug’s Hit: A friend of mine that has been bitter towards hockey because he’s a Whalers fan and hasn’t gotten over them leaving Hartford watched the third and tweeted “The Krug hit might have finally turned me into a Bruins fan.”

Hi Pals!!!!
I slept like a baby!!!! After Clifton’s goal, i really felt the Bruins would win. No need to spot them goals, boys. St Louis will try what Columbus tried. That same thing that Carolina tried. “Let’s beat up their puny defensemen.” Ask the golfers. … that shit don’t work, homie. Take it back to the AHL or the IIHF , aheet?
Connor Clifton!!!!! Just one of the feel good stories on the Bruins (Good Guys) roster. Grizz, Kuraly, the Noeldozer…. Chahlie Fuckin’ Coyle…. and let’s not forget the man with two U’s, two K’s. How can anyone
not love this team??? I have yet to mention Charlie MacAvoy, well, you get the picture…. preaching to the choir here.
So happy for those who attended!!! Wishing for the same result in game 2!!!!!!
Woo!

BTW, Brayden Schenn has had his night. The Bruins gave him his goal and his assist. That line scored the gimmies, but didn’t do much else…. What was most obvious to me, was how invisible ROR was. Yes, he won 6 of 8 faceoffs in the first (ended at 52%), but wound up -1, 0 hits, 1 weak shot, no blocks…. not a factor. The blues were stifled.. they’d need Miles Davis to shake their blues now!!!?

The post game with Bouwmeester was telling…. dude was like ” yeah, not sure what happened. We jumped out to the early lead and then.. (cough, mumble, head shake) i’m not sure, they changed some things… (puzzled look) (mutters something), not sure…. ”
Bwahahaha!!! Yes, we have Sweenius, but Bruce… Bruce is fucking kryptonite!!!!

They call me Bruce!!??

One has to think that the Blues have a film guy who will point out to them how they got their ass handed to them for the last 35 minutes of play that will make it harder to do that again, but 3 shots in 20 minutes? Woof.

twisted twisted twisted twisted
