Red alert! Red alert! For the second year in a row, Patrice Bergeron failed to receive the Selke Trophy. Were I conspiracy-minded, I would say that while Bergy has been nominated a record eighth year, the powers that be want him to remain tied with Bob Gainey with four wins.

Instead, Ryan O’Reilly won and he gave a super long, stupid speech that I didn’t listen to for long.
However, earlier in the evening, Don Sweeney won GM of the Year. Sweeney obviously went for the “GM” look instead of getting gussied up like all the players.
Congratulations to Don Sweeney on being named @NHL General Manager of the Year! https://t.co/jNZuKgIiXu pic.twitter.com/Y8UCzfuZ4R

Some of Don Sweeney's Cup Final building moves:
* Traded for Charlie Coyle
* Traded for Marcus Johansson
* Signed Chris Wagner
* Signed Jaroslav Halak
* Signed John Moore
* Drafted Jake DeBrusk, Charlie McAvoy, Brandon Carlo— Marisa Ingemi (@Marisa_Ingemi) June 20, 2019
So, 1/2 wasn’t so bad.
So how was the show this year? It was funny for the most part, with Kenan Thompson nailing the opening monologue and doing some of his bits in between.

Even Aleksander Barkov, had a killer line in his acceptance speech.

Those Finns are a funny people.
There were some moments that weren’t great but basically everything this year is a vast improvement on last year’s hostess, snooze fest. It’s like they actually hired funny writers and others who enjoy life. It’s probably the best NHL Awards I’ve seen so far, even besting the evening Cuba Gooding, Jr hit on Andrew Ference’s wife, Krista, from the stage.
Fuck the Blues
I’m still not over the Stanley Cup loss. I mean I seem fine, I can go about my day without thinking about it, but every time I see mention of the Blues, or see the Blues, or see them parading around, I get angry. Because that Cup was ours. That Game 5 non-call on Bozak is going to burn me up for a while.
We are on the same page. I’m having Vietnam-style flashbacks from being at game seven.
I just wanted one thing for my birthday but noooooooooooooooooooooo.
You have it worse of all.
The worst! And I still love them so much!
The day after we lost, I was driving to work and thinking about whose Bruins jersey I was going to buy next. The day after a loss in game seven of the Stanley Cup Final, I’m wondering which jersey to buy – and that says a lot of good things about this team.
It’s fun when you pack and you have a box simply labeled “hockey jerseys.”
It is – especially when one has the Polish eagle and picnic table print.
Morning all. Damn you Price for making my eyes leak!
Ugh, WHY does he have to make us like him? And why is he so handsome?
And now we’re all going to have to make sure he goes to the All Star Game so he and Anderson can be best buddies for ever and OH MY GOD YOU STUPID NICE HANDSOME HAB WHY DO YOU DO THIS???!?
Maybe he’s a Hab as a victim of circumstance. They he perpetuated his victimization. But still, he hasn’t bought in to being a SOB.
Morning, folks.
I’m not really surprised, but am super disappointed in the Selke voting. O’Reilly was the 4th best candidate this season but voting for him was the hot new thing this year. Bergy, Stone & Sidney were all better. There’s definitely a clique of voters who refuse to vote for Bergeron because he’s won it before.
I was curious what hockey twitter had to say and there were 5 major themes:
– ROR /Blues fans who were celebrating his award
– Bergeron advocates who thought he got jobbed
– Leafs fans who were concerned that Marner getting 5 votes would would make his contract demands more expensive
– Isles fans who want anyone who voted for Cizikas or Barzal removed from voting
– Habs fans and their enablers who are touting Danault votes
Morning, hockey pals!
Krejci played 81 games this season and, production-wise at least – has never had a better year in his career. What do these folks want!?
Do you think maybe he’ll be one of those who’s never appreciated until he’s retired.
And from what I’ve heard, buying out Backes doesn’t even really save them that much money anyway
Yeah, it’s actually a bad idea. Might as well trade him to a floor team for nothing.
Oh, if someone wanted to add a top six wing, Anders Lee would not be a terrible choice.
I think you’re on to something –
Neither would Marcus Johansson!
I forgot how big he is. 6’3, 231! Wow!
Hi Pals!!
The Selke should be renamed “The Bergy”.
Sweenius!!! You’re not done, bro! Let’s get next year’s team finished!! Sign the boys!!
Trying to get a group together to paddle the Park River underground through Hartford!!! Things are weird down there!!
Whoa! That sounds way cool!
