Morning Free Association: Another Step Closer

Last night the Boston Bruins played their first home game of the preseason in the newly renovated TD Garden. Last night’s roster was mostly the varsity squad led by captain Zdeno Chara, David Krejci, David Backes, and Tuukka Rask.

In his first ice time this preseason, Tuukka stopped 16-17 in 40:00 minutes. Dan Vladar took over, allowing one goal at even strength and one shorthanded. That last one wasn’t necessarily his fault since it was the result of friendly fire; the puck bounced off Trent Frederic’s stick and into the net.

Defender not defenseman, you jackasses.

In the first period, David Krejci left the ice after two shifts and a little bit of a nasty fall. He didn’t return to the game.

Jakub Lauko started off the scoring on a beauty of a self-pass in the first period.

Marchy and Pasta showed that some things don’t change. See? They didn’t even need Bergy tonight!

The connection between The Mayor and The Handsome didn’t dry up over the summer either. Knowing when to shoot versus when to pass is an important skill. This was a clinic.

This game needed to be decided in overtime.

After 1:12 of overtime, the Flyers’ Kevin Hayes was sent to the box for Holding against Charlie Coyle. At that point the Bruins iced a dream team of Jake DeBrusk, David Pastrnak, Charlie Coyle, and Brad Marchand on the power play. At 2:35, Jake DeBrusk jabbed the puck towards Flyer Brian Elliot, who thought he stopped it with his pads. Turns out, he didn’t.

It was a meaningless game for stats and standings but it meant something to the fans to see that the team is going to be good again this season and they’re going to be all in. I can’t wait for the regular season to begin.

Hiya folks.

I INTENDED to watch some of the game last night, but totally forgot about it. Damn you, Netflix! I did however see about half of it this morning and liked what I saw. Bring on the season!

Although, I see the first four games are at very non-UK friendly times, so my live viewing will have to wait a while!
