The Bruins are in Montreal tonight for the first meeting of the regular season between the Boston Bruins and the Montreal Canadiens. Puck drop is supposedly at 7:30, but Montreal, so probably 7:40-7:50, on NBCSN.
After 14 games, the Bruins are at 11-1-2, which is good for 1st place in the Atlantic, and the best points-percentage in the league.
The NHL leader boards currently have a lot of Black & Gold on them. The Bruins are the league leader in fewest Goals Against per game with a respectable 2.14. The player with the most Goals scored is David Pastrnak, with 14. He also has the most points with 29, with Marchy right behind him at 28. Brad Marchand has the best +/- at +15. The goaltender with the highest save % and GAA is Tuukka Rask at .949 and 1.49. The Bruins have the league’s best power play at 30.6%. It’s been a great start to the season!
Tonight is also Zdeno Chara’s 1500th regular season game! I’m sure the Montreal crowd will respect that with a giant dramatic light show.
I’m just kidding – they’ll boo the heck out of him like the petty little jerks they are.
Chara will have played 970 of those games as a Bruin, 299 as a Senator and 231 as an Islander. (Not to mention an additional 137 playoff games as a Bruin and another 45 as a Senator).
What will be the lineup tonight?
David Backes is still out with an upper body injury after the collision with the Senators’ Sabourin.
Brett Ritchie is back after being out with an infected cut similar to Joakim Nordstrom. Cameron Hughes has been called up from the P-Bruins, as has Zach Senyshyn.
Karson Kuhlman is still on IR with an arm fracture, after blocking a shot. Anton Blidh is out after having shoulder surgery. Par Lindholm has just been placed on IR with an upper body injury.
Hughes was in for Backes on Monday. These line changes are a gametime decision.
Defensemen Kevan Miller and John Moore are still on Injured Reserve and Long-term Injured Reserve respectively, providing playing time for Matt Grzelcyk and Connor Clifton. Miller has begun practicing while wearing a non-contact jersey. I was expecting Miller to come back tonight but Clifton is back, in spite of getting close to the end of his waiver exemption.
Tuukka Rask will be in goal today.
