Morning Free Association: Montreal Atypical

Last night the Boston Bruins played what might have been their most complete game this season and the Montreal Canadiens turned up toothless. Sure, the Habs led in shots on goal 37-24. However, the Bruins made the most of their 24 shots by scoring on a third of them, resulting in a win for this team of injury-plagued, rag-tag misfits. Okay, maybe that’s a bit much.

Jack Studnicka made his NHL debut centering a line of Jake DeBrusk on his left and Weymouth’s Charlie Coyle on his right. Young Jack had many of his family there in attendance to witness him obtain his first NHL point, an assist on a late game Danton Heinen goal.

Not only did he get his first point, he got his first minor penalty minutes, 2 minutes for roughing.

With Patrice Bergeron out, Brad Marchand took on the task of wearing his A and showing the team that he, too, is a leader. Going into this game, Brad was just 2 points short of 600 NHL points. After assisting on David Pastrnak’s first goal, Brad scored one of his own in the first to grant the Bruins a 2 goal lead and to reach his milestone. He would assist on Pasta’s second goal for a 3-point night.

Brad

And Pasta! He had just another ordinary night during which he had a natural hat trick. That’s his 6th career regular season hat trick and 7th overall.

This guy is pretty good.

Sean Kuraly, typically of the fourth line, was bumped up to the third line to center Anders Bjork and his bestie, Danton Heinen. He made the most of his opportunity, looking like a reanimated anthropomorphic bowl of noodles (thank you, Patton Oswalt). He even spent 8 seconds on the power play. Up to this point in the season, he had all of 4 points; his solitary goal came when he scored a key goal in the last Montreal game. Last night, he assisted on three goals; Jake DeBrusk (PPG), Anders Bjork, and Charlie Coyle.

Even birthday boy Brandon Carlo got an assist on Pasta’s 23rd goal of the season. Happy Birthday to him!

Jaroslav Halak had an excellent night in net, saving 36-37 including 2 on the penalty kill.

So, that was a pretty good win.

Next up, Ottawa tonight.

Rosemary is wonderful. Bread dipped in olive oil and rosemary is one of my favorite snacks.

I loved how the fans were booing the first few Bs goal, but then they got fed up!

Only caught the highlights. Could’ve stayed up to watch the first period, but as it’s the Bell Centre I assume they didn;t start anywhere near on time? Also it’s darts tonight and playing tired affects my game!

Reminds me of Pat Burns…not that he laughed all that much

As a child, Burns had always wanted to play on a NHL team, and win the Stanley Cup. Once he realized he didn’t possess the skill set to make it professionally, Burns became a police officer. He had also worked part-time as a scout for the Hull Olympiques of the QMJHL.[

Hey Pals!
Wow!!! Fun game to watch!! No time to gloat, they need to focus on the Tootsies! An opportunity for mucho mas goals, eh?
Missed going to the rink last night. When the Bs are playing, certain players would keep me abreast of game news. I didn’t miss skating(much), but the peeps…. hockey peeps are the best!!
