Morning Free Association: Last Game at the Garden (This Decade)

The Boston Bruins played their last game at the Garden of this decade. They played it against the Sabres, finishing up the latest home-and-home with the team from upstate New York. Like the results of Friday night, they were able to claim two more points in the standings.

Were you to guess a player to score the first goal in this game, chances are you would select David Pastrnak. And you would be correct.

The Bruins scored on their first shot of the night, the first of only two shots in the first period.

Jake DeBrusk was having a rough night, at least in the first period, and was benched for the remainder of the opening frame.

He would come back in a major way in the third.

In the second the only goal came from one of the many Rasmuses (Rasmii?), this one the Finnish dude, Ristolainen. Seriously, this team has all the Rasmuses (Rasmii?).

Sabres forward Jeff Skinner was hurt when he collided with David Pastrnak on Friday night, so Johan Larsson was one of the players filling in. Somehow with 1:23 elapsed in the period, he managed in one shift to trip Jake DeBrusk and hook Brad Marchand to get himself back-to-back minors in the sin bin. So Jake DeBrusk on the second power play unit lit the lamp not once but twice during that penalty.

Yep, two PPG in 18 seconds. From benched to scoring the game winner all in one game. Quite a ride.

Buffalo came back and scored to get within one goal but it wasn’t enough, especially when they vacated their goal and then with seconds left, committed penalties, and wasted their opportunity. Which is all fine with me. The Boston Bruins are winners of three straight.

I like this “winning” thing. The Bruins should do that every game – it’s more fun.
There’s always more work to do – it seems like they should shoot the puck more – but winning is good, however you make it happen.

Oh and had a dream last night that I was going over to GH and IW’s house. Except they lived in a sports bar in a mall that was next to a lake that was on the verge of flooding. And it was very difficult to find the entrance to their place. It was all very exhausting.
